Zen Mini Torii SE Amp by Decware - Page 2

No, no experience with the EC headphone amps (although I own and love their Transcription phono preamp).

I checked out the Woo and it looks pretty good. I'm a little surprised that it's an OTL amp, but again, Zana Deux surprised me when we tried the LCD'2s. Since I'm generally a fan of transformer based amps, the Decware is probably the better choice. How does the Peak/Volcano compare?

The PV was also very good, with lots of power, but for the Planars, I preferred the Decware. If you want more specifics on the PV, I wrote a review of it in the loaner thread.

Thanks Skylab, I did see your review, it was great.

I have to say the Mini Torii is sounding very good, especially considering I rarely listen to anything besides my LCD-2's.

For those, the Mini-Torii is really, really great.

Hi Skylab,

I'm looking for one amp that can drive a variety of headphones well (like LCD-2, T1, HD800, HE500, GS1000i etc). Do you think the WA-2 is the better choice? Or how about something from Decware? I really like the their looks. My budget will be around $2500 max. Thanks.

The WA-2 would not be my first choice for that wide a variety of headphones either - in that price range it would probably be the Trafomatic Experience Head One, although the Woo WA6SE might also be very good (I have only heard the WA6, not the SE, which is more powerful).

Thanks for the advice Skylab! Much appreciated.

As you mentioned Decware, their CSP2+ ($995 with headphone out) and Taboo ($1095 with headphone out) are another possibility for this money. Taboo - like the mini-torii - drives the LCD2. CSP2+ drives the others, and Decware also recommend it as a preamp for the Taboo.

The CSP2 has some great reviews with the T1 - Skylab has also reviewed this combination IIRC - and the Taboo with the LCD2.

Note I have not heard either amp, although I ordered the Taboo back in August and might even get to see it this year!

I have both the CSP2 and taboo and its perfect for the LCD2. The Taboo side drives them well. My favorite amps of all I have owned and permANENT RESIDENTS IN MY SYSTEM. tHE csp2 IS ALSO OUTSTANDING FOR MOST HEADPHONES INCLUDING MY d7000(SORRY CAP BUTTON)I think anyone wanting a tube system for the LCD2 would be very happy with the 2 piece setup. I also drive my Omega speakers and sub using both.

I'm really looking forward to my Taboo Frank! Have heard from others who have it as well. It holds up outstandingly against other amps.

Anyways, enough about these...this is the minitorii thread, which I also gave a lot of consideration to.  Too many tubes <sigh>
