Happy DNA Day and...

... as I did this about a year ago thought I'd let Head-Fiers know 23&Me is having a one day sale for $99 to celebrate DNA Day. Not affiliated with the company besides being a customer. Normally $500 (and was $1K last year when I did it), but if you're interested in basic family history or medical information (this is all still at the beginnings) you can't go wrong with the price. It's updated over time so may be more useful in the future. If you consider this spam feel free to delete, but I thought some of you may be interested. Might as well get to know your parents, parents, parents, parents, parents.

Ah yes 23&Me... I'll wait until it's made mandatory by the government.

Soon no doubt. Would sure help criminal investigation though. It could also help select who lives and who dies when resources run out. Sound familiar?

C'mon Soylent Green tastes like chicken.

For what it's worth my comparative tin-foil hat wearing girlfriends privacy concerns were met, but something to consider before jumping in.

I have a healthy respect for your privacy and mine...but I don't understand this perspective. The government may or may not know your genetic information now or in the future, but isn't that a separate issue? I can't see how having your own data is a bad thing. If you use it, could be hugely positive, or at least interesting. If you don't make use, you're only out $99.

I dunno, I guess I see Facebook and the rise of social interaction data mining as a MUCH larger threat to privacy. Those reveal behavior and associations, which I consider far more intrusive than knowing a biological code that is still largely unmapped and mysterious.

I couldn't agree more. Even posting here on Head-Fi is a trail and just a little bit more of your privacy lost. Either way, I don't want a record of my genetic code stored away. Little by little we willingly giving up more of our freedom, anonymity and privacy.

I dont want them having my DNA code. They might clone me and make an army of millions of hot-looking geniuses and there will be millions of me everywhere(not a bad thing really) and i dont know how they will be treating me.

I have enough problems keeping healthy! I dont want to be sick all over the world!!!

Two separate armies of Drag0ns will fight each other. You'd have to kill yourself. The last Drag0n standing will carry on with the cleaned and encoded DNA controlled by KAOS. After your purpose has been used, they simply turn you off.
