Hey All,

well, I'm doing my first sale on head-fi..yay!
I don't want to make this post an advertisement so won't say what it is but since this being my first time, is there anything I should know??

just want to make sure the process will go smoothly for me and the person who is buying. Is there a process to make sure it goes smoothly? or insurance when shipping, paypal etc? I always see people specifying sale for only CONUS, but don't know why..is this a safety issue for payment or shipping? or is it just cheaper and faster shipment and shipping insurance..

sorry for being an absolute noob and thanks in advance!

there are lots of annoyances with international sales. Delays from customs, increased chance of loss, damage, and fraud, unpredictable costs, additional paperwork, etc.

Insurance really only covers loss or damage that's obvious before opening the box. You need to pack things to survive being thrown off a 10 story building.

In the end it all comes down to trust... That's what the feedback forums are for.

International shipping has always been a fear of mine. Even though I have sent stuff overseas without issue I always have a worry about it not getting there and then the item being lost and the buyer wanting their money back. I mainly ship CONUS only or if it is to Canada I ask them to pay the shipping as it is costly. Most of the stuff I buy from the internet comes either signature required or just shipped. I have never had a company send it insured or registered and I although taking a chance, normally send stuff signature required without insurance or being registered mail. I can say I have never had a bad sale here on Head-Fi and I cannot say that for some other sites. I have bought and sold alot here and never had a problem. I would say the options available would be for you to choose according to how much you want to spend for peace of mind.

thanks guys...

I guess I will get it insured when sending. I'm hoping its not going to cost much.

Just do what feels comfortable to you. Feedback helps a lot as well so be sure to check those before selling something or buying. Also typically I do ConUS only but sometimes allow Canadians as well depending on their feedback. Shipping within ConUS is cheaper and faster. There are customs issues but when I do outside of US I let them know that it may take up to 2 weeks and won't be traced (hence the feedback).

If something makes you feel uncomfortable don't be pressured to do something you don't want.

thanks rawrster,

one question though guys. how does the payment work with paypal? is there a time wait for clearance as in checks? or as soon as I see the payment done in my account I should just ship the item?

With PayPal I think it depends what method of payment they use. Typically (with bank account and credit card payments) it goes through right away. Then I withdraw the money to my bank account and once the money's in my possession I ship it (takes a day or so, IIRC). eChecks via PayPal can take awhile to clear, and again, I'd wait until you have the money until you ship it.

Try to make sure your buyer seems trustworthy and has good feedback. I typically won't sell to brand new members. If someone has zero feedback I read their posts and look at their join date to see if they seem legit. Any sale (feedback or no feedback) is a risk though.

Only insure what you have an original store receipt for, if you bought the item online or used you will not be covered by insurance in the event they loose or damage the package. Best thing to do is pay for delivery confirmation so you know when it's delivered, signature confirmation is an option but half the time they don't get one.

Edit: Online, not offline.

This was the point I was trying to make I guess. I agree with it entirely.
