Sources for Audio Project Cases?

Hey, being DIY'ers we often need cases for our audio projects.
I wondered what sources people in the DIY section know about.

So where do you guys get your cases from for your audio projects?

Hammond
Lansing
Box Enclosures

These all provide cases with slots for PCB's, but they provide many other types, too. Hammond is available just about everywhere, but direct sales are not something they normally do unless you're planning something big. Lansing is only through direct sales, AFAIK, but they are very reasonable and quick. Box Enclosures are readily available at Allied and Newark and also direct.

Try to be creative, especially with cases, it can be fun to build a wood box or to have something else than the sempiternal black or silver aluminium case.

I use Hifi2000 cases from Modushop but its probably more for European Head-fiers due to the costly shipping.

Yes, it is nice to have the time and tools to build a custom case but many find it easier to just buy a ready made unit and mod it for their purpose.

I was looking over some units on HiFi2000, and they have some nice csae but as you said the shipping would be high for North America.

pretty much all I buy is one of these:

Hammond
Lansing

eBay is OK for cases too; this (searched for "matel case" [sic]) and this (searched for "diy audio").

I'm partial to Par-Metal's 20 series as well, though I've had better experience calling them instead of emailing.

I usually use the Par-Metal 20 series and yeah, always call, don't email.

*Shameless self-plug : if anybody wants a pair of 20-12123C, I have 2 that I want to get rid of (bought, but moving so need to sell). They come with brackets but no panels as I wanted to use them for a Beta22 project that never came to pass.

Apparently a free one comes with every Digikey order

I'd sooner chop off my own arm than deal with CE again.

Another option: LMB Heeger : Product Category Page : Extruded Aluminum Enclosures

OK - you hadn't told me that. So, I'll take them off my list.

For europeans wanting a professional looking job try Protocase: Custom Electronic Enclosures for Engineers and Designers

They are professional, good quality and quick to deliver (but, unfortunately, very expensive).

Great stuff, I have a few projects that are ready for the case stage. I always like to consider the final look and design as I am building the unit.
