Sennheisser MX 980 vs. IE 8 - Page 6

@sbwf2cheater, MX980 is still pretty new, and nowadays earbuds are getting less attention

It seems like you just waiting for somebody to give you the courage to click the 'Order' button

Gear mentioned in this thread:

well sorta i guess, but I got screwed on the Pk3 because the Sennheiser MX580 is nicer and similarly priced, I got screwed heavily on the PK2 because the sennheiser MX880 was way nicer, and I really dont want to get screwed again on the pk1 because the mx980 is nicer

By that logic I suppose you are right, but I dont want to push the button on a somewhat new set that has no detailed review. I've read the other reviews here on headfi about it and came away with nothing :\

but then again i am collector so odds are good in the future i will get the pk1. But the mx980 will be my main listening headphone for a while

swbf2cheater - From a couple of initial reads, it seems like you might like the Blox TM5 more than any of them. Seems like sound wise they are better than the PK1 and definitely carry stronger bass than the PK1. Perhaps before you pull the trigger on the 980, you should look into those first.

Am currently waiting for a nice review and comparison with all three before i do anything

On Amazon.co.uk it is still 127.99 GBP which is pretty steep.

Well, just pull the trigger on the MX 980 from amazon.de (124,41€ with shipping), a little diference from amazon.co.uk, but still  a diference.

(Till now i havent had any issues with fakes on amazon, what do you guys think?)

I also own a PK1, which really needs an amp to shine, and the pico slim does a fantastic job!

So, if you say that the MX sounsd better unamped, will it make any diference amped?

Just anxious to get my hands on it...

[swbf2cheater-go and get yourself a pico slim, you wont regret it. (altough expensive )]

[Szadzik-i see you also have a ESW9, how do they compare? (diferent league, but..)]

(sorry for the off-topic)

I've been following this thread since it came out, but no one seems to have asked if the CX980, the IEM version of the MX980, sounds similar to the IE8 (or even the MX980).

Any takers?

So I got my MX980s yesterday.

I have to say I am impressed with them. After a few hours of listening, I am already thinking about selling ESW9s. I have not had time to A-B them and am not certain will find the time to do that, but I can say they are nice and I like the portability factor against ESW9s.

I compared MX980 with my Yuin Ok1 and Blox TM5.

Mx980 is the clear winner! Hands down!

Bassier than Blox TM5 and terrific clarity and separation...

Thanks for this information!
From where you have the information regarding 9mm transducer in IE 8?
Do you have any additional information about IE 8?

The MX W1 sound amazing, but the KLEER technology leaves a lot to be desired. *When* they worked the SQ was unmatched with any IEM/bud, other than the 980, apparently.

I read somewhere that MX980 needs an amp but IE8 doesn't.  Do you listen to them amped or unamped?  I listen to my iPad or iPhone a lot and so I am looking for one which doesn't need an amp.
