SEE PROS & CONS. NOTE: The clamping factor will obviously differ from person to person, but I'm surprised to find little mention of it, as it is the sole reason I'd never think twice about...

When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

I own the Protector but not the Pico Slim. I also own the ALO Rx, and I said earlier that I preferred the ALO Rx's SE to the Protector SE but now it's becoming a toss up since the Protector is burning in. I cant wait to get my balanced cables, if it does make the Protector sound at least 20% better my ALO Rx will be collecting dust.

The protector balanced is something else, I use it with a set of JH13s at the house and the stock cables at drawing class, (they just fit over my ear better and I use the hp out on my phone). People rave about the protector and they should, it's a very solid and great sounding piece of equipment. I'm intrigued about the form factor of the Pico slim. though. I think Ray just opened up a whole new format of amps and balanced in/out abilities of niche players, cables, etc..

I've heard neither but from the reviews I would definitely buy the Protector, way better portable amp then anything out there.

When in doubt...just buy all....

Jokes aside, each amp has their own merits. I love the pico slim for the control and the added clarity that it brings to the music and especially when you are using iems. A very strong plus point.
The protector does have its advantage such as an increased soundstage and the ability to drive full sized cans even.
I doubt i'll be letting go of either...

I say the Protector. Because of its balanced design, which is quite unique.

owning both, my vote goes with the protector. Though ive only had the slim for 5 days now, and it may get better over time. i would say though, that one spot that the slim has the protector beat is battery life, i havent charged the slim yet since i opened the package and topped it off to full charge. Been running ever since, every day i expect it to die at some point and it hasnt happened yet. but to sum up what ive said in the slim thread about the comparison of the two. the protector has deeper bass with more impact, better dynamics, and i feel its slightly more open with a bit more clarity, but it is also 3 times the size and a hundred dollars more.
