CR1A CR1C - CA4L/R CA5L/R Cap Choice - MOSFET MAX

Recommendation for CR1A CR1C - CA4L/R CA5L/R for MOSFET MAX:

Panasonic FC
Nichicon PW
Nichicon Muse FG

From the above three choices, which would be the better cap for the above mentioned positions (I'd really like Panasonic FM's but can't find them in the specified sizes)?

(Excuse me if already covered before...)

How close to the recommended sizes can you find?

What are the recommended sizes?

Did you look at the MOSFET-MAX BOM:
MOSFET-MAX BOM ?

UHE's are recommended from Mouser. I can assure you, they work fine. More than that, they are superior in ESR and ripple than any you've listed. They compete well with Panasonic FM's:

UHE 1800uf 35V - 0.017 impedance, 3350ma ripple
FM 1800uf 35V - 0.014 impedance, 3820ma ripple.

I prefer FM's, too. Unfortunately, the 25mm can height is as big as they come - 1800uf 35V, or 1000uf 50V. Those are the caps that are supplied with every MiniMAX kit, in fact. However, we're not limited to 25mm heights in the MOSFET-MAX. There are many alternatives and the UHE line has some outstanding selections - those are the ones on the BOM. You can get large enough with the UHE's, in fact, to exceed those FM specs (although we don't go that far in the BOM).

I wouldn't put the Nichicon Muse FG's in the same conversation, though. We're talking power caps here and FG's are audio-signal caps. I'm not sure you can even find published info on ripple and ESR for those, as is typical for most audio-quality caps (unpublished specs are usually bad specs). The signal caps on the MOSFET-MAX should be the Elna RFS Silmic II"s (available at DigiKey). After trying many kinds on the MOSFET-MAX, those are every bit as good as Black Gates and magnitudes cheaper. Stay away from KZ's, too.

from the datasheet, Muse FG
1000uf, 35V 1060mArms ripple

OK - always someone waiting to correct me.

Still, there appears to be no published impedance rating, which is at least as important in this application. Plus, that ripple is less than half of either of the two can sizes of UHE's in that rating. I have nothing against FG's and have used them several times in the past - just not for power/decoupling.

Just looking (before I go from memory again), but KZ's or ES's have no published ESR/ripple and BG's are infamous for their lack of published data. Elna's publish ripple, but only a few sizes appear to have some ESR test graphs (vs. frequency). I think the general sense of what I was conjuring up from memory is still valid: on the whole, audio-quality caps' power spec data is not published as much - for a reason.

Thanx for the replies... Looks like I'll go with UHE's! Oh, and dummy me am always looking for a cap with some gold coloring on it to compliment those red box caps.
