Hi!, which do you think is better between the two? i was looking at the Sony site and compared these. they seem very identical with the difference in looks and the touch screen for the X series. which do you think would be the best bang for the buck?

I would presume he means the new one

There are some comparisons in the (admitted, long long) X1060 thread.
In general, the X sounds slightly more natural and without the digital edge that f.i. my old A808 had.

The new A series uses the same or very similar output stage as the X. I can chime in on this: the A845 (go ahead and buy mine) doesn't have a good line out, but its HPO is pretty good. If you are a Sony fan, the S-Master is (in either the X or A) smoother than older Sony walkman (take that as you will - I'll not get into why here).

I was considering the X and A84x and went for the A845 in the end, because I didn't need the touchscreen and the A845 was slightly cheaper and considerably lighter. So far I'm very pleased with my decision.

thanks!..and yes i did mean the new ones (x-series NWZ-X1061FBSMP and a-series NWZ-A846/B)...i'm thinking of getting the new a-series, i don't really like the touch screen, plus its a lot cheaper too, unless of course i get to find a cheap x-series x1061 on ebay

@ Ymerej and James444 - I also don't like the x touchscreen interface and that is why I got the A845. It IS for sale, however, so PM me and you can have it!

I love the touchscreen. It is easier and faster to operate. Much faster. I have to say though, that I have been an avid touchscreen user for ages now.

The Sony version gives me headaches though. I just want scrolling, not a 3D effect.

The sony touchscreen is even more responsive then the Touch... its awesome. Doesn't have multitouch but ey, its more responsive anyways

I had a S639 - which I never cared for much (sounded too bassy, too trebly) - but my X1060 is wonderful

perhaps slightly bass heavy (not as bad as the S639) - and sometimes sounds slightly grainy, but other than that - definately as good as I've heard on a portable device.

i prefer non touch  mp3 player :) that's why i bought A 845 !

The X1060 has the best sound I've heard on a PMP. Better than A845. TouchScreen can be deactivated and you work just with the buttons to listen music outdoors.

Wouldn't you want an 'X' -series type device. It is actually like that for me, it's thicker and it's black, and it's got a cool retro-type touchscreen and it's titled 'x-series'. I have 'x' type albums on there too and it all makes sense for me and it's cool. Stuff like:

I love it (the X factor device...).
