"Dark Knight" AD700 Gaming Mod (Lots of Pics!) - Page 7

Alright, I don't have a meter but I'll check their site.  I also got 5 of them so I could just do one as a trial run.  Thanks and happy new year!

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with a little problem I have.  I took four wires and Litz braided them and was about to put on my four pole male plug but I have no idea how to solder it. The jacks have nice solder points but this looks very difficult. I'm a novice when it comes to soldering but my dad does it for a living and he was a little puzzled.  My question is, is this how they usually come or are there other ones with the nice rectangle with a hole soldering points and if so could someone point me towards it? Thank you. Here's a picture of the plug.

Now that my A900s are the low man on the totem pole I may have to finally give this a shot.

So I have everything done with my headphones except for wiring the mic and cable jack.  Im not too sure where the wires from the mic jack are going though. Do both grounds go into the speaker? That's what it looks like in one of TooCrazy's pics. Also I'm assuming the mic jack only needs one wire on the contact for the tip and it goes to the contact for the sleeve of the 4 pole jack? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone knows where I can get the 4 pole Neutrik Hybrid plugs?

I have been searching online for days with no luck.

link575, you can use this diagram to wire the headphone and add the microphone.

Cmarti, thanks that's pretty much what i did however for the mic and only used the tip and the sleeve, not the ring. Should both the tip and ring be wired to the mic terminal of the four pole jack? I can include a picture if that would help. I just tried them out today cause i got a mic but the mic won't work so maybe that's the problem.

On my set up for the microphone I am now using just the tip and not the ring of terminal but the difference is that I use two three pole 3.5mm with the headset buddy adapter for my MaxAmp 5.8  I did used both the tip and the ring before and worked just fine.

I just got the TRRS four pole connector and am waiting for the Mogami W2893 cable to get here so I can rewire and use just the TRRS connector instead of the two three pole 3.5mm connectors and the headset buddy.

alright thanks guess i'll just have to open it back up and recheck everything then

Edit: Checked everything, turned out plug didn't go in jack all the way to just fixed that and everything works but the mic is just so darn low.  Any reason for this?

Try another mic, that maybe the problem; I used this one and just called my wife and she says I sound loud and clear.

Here are pictures of the whole process.

Nice, yea that's the one I have actually.  I think it was just my controller. Popped it into another one and it worked fine which is weird since other mics work fine in the first one but whatever.

I think it could be polarity of the 3.5mm female connector, try inverting the cables that you have connected to it to see if it makes a difference.

I built today another microphone:

It the mic part came from an old headset at work and the 3.5mm connector form a patch cable I had laying around and to finish it I used two layers of heat shrink tube

Finished my A900 mod earlier tonight. I suspect it was more difficult than an A700 or AD700 would have been since I tore apart my 700s to reveal there was no damping foam to help get in my way among other things. If I do this again I may avoid using a mini-XLR connector as it's size was stretching things pretty far for this particular headphone although I think I made it work decently.

I replaced the original cable with Mogami W2534 and stripped the stock wrap in favor of some MDPC-X sleeving/heatshrink I had and terminated it to mini-XLR at the headphone and 1/8" TRRS at the other end. Using a splitter, which I plan to make my own to simplify things since I'll only be plugging it into 1/4" jacks anyways, it accepts both mic and headphone input and without the splitter it works as a regular set of cans.

I'm pretty happy with the finished product although I may go back and further smooth some rough edges where the connectors are.

What did you use to open the holes for the connectors?  Also where did you get that TRRS connector?

Looks very nice, I guess you painted the tip of the microphone black because they normally come in silver.
