Want to DIY RCA Cables

Thread Starter
As i am gearing up lately, I want to DIY some nice RCA cable to go with the system. Currently I am using stock and cheap ass "wires" (don't qualify calling it a cable)

A few years ago I was looking at the Eichmann bullet plugs.. but didn't get around to actually buy and make a cable... Don't know how it compares nowadays.

Can you guys recommend me some good RCA connectors and cables to start with? budget is around 50 each cable, I want to keep the cost down.

I'll probably be making 3 cables, all between 1-5 feet
1) RCA male to 1/8 male
2) RCA male to RCA male
3) 1/8 male to 1/8 male

I don't really know what materials to use, copper, silver, gold...?

It will be used to connect my following gears
Source:
Denon dvd-2910
Desktop PC with Nuforce UDAC

Headamp:
G&W T-2.6F

Headphone:
Senn 650

Speaker:
Audioengine A5

thanks

Eichmann Copper Bullets are going to cost you around $42/4 so that eats up your budget quite quickly, but they are damn good connectors and I'd recommend them easily. Another connector I've enjoyed using is by Yarbo and is available in a few places, though my favorite store, VT4C.com, stocks them as well. Be prepared to pay some serious shipping fees, but considering all the things they sell and the prices, it's well worth it.

For wire, a 100' roll of 18awg Cardas from Percy Audio can't be beat - just remember to buy the Teflon tubing as well, and make the tubing slightly larger than the wire or you're asking for trouble. Tubing also available from VT4C, slightly cheaper if you don't count shipping.

buy $2/ft vampire wire 20ga or any wire you want
buy 1/4th copper sleeve
buy 1/4th clear heatshrink
buy cheap rca's from china / ebay
= awesome total costs for the set of these is under $20

don't waste your time on expensive rca's their nothing special besides the price.

I happen to be partial to anti-cable clones.

Best $5 I have ever spent making a cable.
Radio shack RCA, shoelace as strain releif, 40ga (maybe 41ga?) signal wire, 20ga ground.

Neutrik Rean phono (RCA) plugs are good quality and about £1.50 per plug. Proel interconnect cable is about £2 per meter and is very flexible. Both are easily found on ebay.

Ebay is flooded with all kinds of cheap connectors. I am this close to buying some of the silver plated connectors that look real good (the same momo talked about).
Also try to get hold of some Mundorf wire. It is a silver/gold alloy and sounds really good to my ears.

Belden 1505F Is pretty great cable, about 70C a foot. And the afformentioned Neutrik Rean connectors. You could have a no-nonsense, quality part for peanuts.
