Musiland Monitor and uDAC

Hi guys, kinda new and need the help.

I'm trying to get a DAC unit and is considering the above 2. Now I know the 2 are vastly different kinds of products and offers different set of features, to the extent that it seems unreasonable to compare the 2, but I just want to get an idea about how different they sound and how useful the extra features of the Musiland Monitor could be.

I'm assuming that the Musiland Monitor is going to sound better than the uDAC, but this is going to be a huge difference? The uDAC is attractive because its 1) portable and 2) doesn't req a driver, so less chance of any complications/instabilities/incompetabilities/need for troubleshooting. However if its sound is significantly worse than Musiland Monitor then I might consider the Musiland Monitor instead.

I'm not taking the amp capabilities of the 2 into account.

I think knowing the amp/headphones you are planning to use it with will be just as important here, at least for the uDAC. I've never heard the musiland so I can't comment on it, but uDAC does have a sound signature that will go amazing with certain setups but awful with others... so it'd be great if could tell us the rig you are planning to use it with.

what kind of equipments that will be bad for the udac to go with?

I'd avoid most headphones that are bass/low mids heavy or ones that already have bit of a highs roll off.

you almost scared me there with that comment :P
anyways I will receive it within 2 weeks and see how it goes with my m3. Actually I was being torn between the udac and the musiland after selling my 0404 usb (sigh...) and the udac won me in the end.

I'm assuming you're asking about the Musiland Monitor 02 US? I actually want to know how well the Musiland Monitor 01 US (udac) works myself.

I'm curious about this too. I have Alessandro MS-1i's now and might be getting Denon D2000's or other good closed headphones for electronic music. What is the better choice?

I have tested both and the Musiland 02 is in the same league as the uDac if not better. They both sound extremely similar except the Musiland is more forward with vocals, and the bass is slightly more full bodied than the uDac. They are both great , I'm not sure how far Musiland has improved the drivers so it might be a bigger difference now, not sure. uDac is a little warmer sounding than the Musiland but the 02 has better transparency. I'm not sure how the Denon D2000 will sound with either of them but Grados sound great on both, can't go wrong with either one.
