Project with old phones

I got some old broken Skullcandy HESH, they suck. No point of repairing them. I want to make something artistic out of them, but I do not know what. Any suggestions?

That's not much art. Plus isn't Plastic toxic to burn?

rip out the drivers, buy some SFI bipole from ebay, secure the plastic structure with blutak and damping with some felt, recable with some mogami quad and make an orthodynamic fosterphone out of it?

You'd be surprised at what you can do with even the most limited of headphones. Koss makes a cheap, plastic, monstrosity you can buy at Walmart for $4.95. It sounds like some things smell. But if you perform some surgery on these headphones, it's amazing how much better even THEY sound when you take what you already know, from better phones, and apply it with them. I couldn't get much better bass out of them (They have 30mm drivers) but the clarity they produced - when properly used - was surprising, especially for $4.95.

To me, there has to be something artistic about taking junk and turning it into something worthwhile. You may not make it all the way from trash to treasure, but if you can get halfway there, you'd doing something right.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, although sometimes its in the eye of the artist. Many successful artists have made careers out of similarly meaningful if not less meaningful works.

Regarding fumes:
Yes, most plastics emit quite a lot of toxic fumes when they burn. Do it outside and try to avoid the smoke cloud.

On a slightly more serious note, perhaps some KSC-75 or portapro drivers could be installed into the headphones. It has been my experience that the enclosure has a fairly significant effect on the sound so Im not sure how great this will turn out but it should make for a fun experiment either way.
