What purpose do the linen sheets serve? I'm a musician and I plan on doing some recording soon, but I'm far from an expert. What would hanging linen sheets do to the sound?

Just a guess, but the sheets probably prevent his mikes from picking up reflections from the wall and other hard surfaces. Or maybe he's just painfully shy.

He has a harem of naked women behind it, waiting for him to finish.

It serves not only to encourage him to do well during production, but as a soothing way to celebrate completion.

Yes, but they're thin sheets. You're probably right though. I'll have to try that when I record. Regardless of the sound effect, I love that picture.

Maybe it is wash day and it is raining outside.

I wonder if the thread count comes into question along with the colour.

As acoustical treatment it would seem to be pointless. My guess is that the sheets may be there to keep wind noise from the AC or ventilation system from blowing over the mics. Maybe.
