Be very picky, otherwise you are broke before you know it.

This place is actually a blessing of sorts. Here you can buy used stuff and try it and then re-sell it at not too much loss. I consider it like renting the equipment and testing it. I have had alot of headphones but never lost much in the for sale section. I think I am satisfied now with the sound so don't go to the for sale section as often as I used to. Thank you Head-Fi for having a quality for sale section with great honest people to deal with!!!!!!!

I think its the matter of resisting ur temptation. I'm happy with all of my big purchases like V6, MS1i and D1001 but they just wiped out a substantial portion of my student loan. Now I have to live on beans on toasts everyday

One lesson I try to imprint on my oldest son is to avoid buying inexpensive stuff when you can have better stuff if only you save for it. He stopped buying video games and saved his money for a new iPod Nano. He even waited and saved a bit more to buy the 16GB model. He has been so happy with his purchase, and he actually admitted I was right.

My dearly departed aunt told me when I was 8: "Buy the best you can afford. If you have to compromise too much, try and delay the purchase until you have saved enough to buy something that does not force you to compromise on too much."

On the flip side, another of my aunts (still alive!) told me, "If you wonder whether or not you can afford it, you probably can't."

Both these aunts were very, very wealthy, and I think it is important to know that they coul buy whatever they wanted, but still managed to think in a calculated manner about purchases - from home electonics to clothes and cars.

I'm babbling, but I think some of our younger and more spontaneous members might be able to learn something from my three stories. Apologies if I sound as though I am pontificating.

I'm not rich yet I can afford audio gear to a certain extent, be smart about it or just pause from time to time. Stop buying for a while and start saving and enjoying what you have.

I might have to stop a bidding war for an AKG K340, it's that or Jazz music and both is just tricky...

If you can't afford it, go earn more money or open a headphones shop

You guys will never know what spending is until you get into speaker-fi. Anything you spend on cans is peanuts. If I were you I would stop complaining and enjoy the music, if you cannot stop thinking on the money spent the just sell and spend your money on a vacation.

Ya thanks for the welcome. Down below i'll list all the headphones i've bought in the past month or so because of head-fi (and my love of music).

I'm at $400 so far and I don't even have my beginner setup done. I still need to get a dedicated amp. Plus I haven't even started on a vinyl rig yet... Too much money. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. We could have all probably cured cancer by now if thats where we put all out money.

I don't know much about speakers but I can only agree regarding your second argument. Although a vacation would be nice just a few days without worries would be enough.
