TIANYUN ZERO 24-bit/192KHz DAC/HEADPHONE AMP/PREAMP
2008 Model Like New (literally!) PCLink USB>S/PDIF Converter HQ Cables
I have not used this bad boy for 10 hours. I didn't even bother burning it in. In the excitement of my dream system finally coming together, I most unfortunately underestimated my needs in the analog dept. All the praise that the Zero has garnered for it's quality and features is surely deserved, but the front end is strictly digital [S/PDIF optical & coaxial inputs only.] Now I am siting here, with my fantastic new Grado RS-2 woodies, crying. But there is no way I'm using anything but the Burr-Brown DACs in my killer new, high-end (am I bragging or enough or what?
) Yamaha receiver, so this baby has to go.
I have to say, this amp is actually better than new. Because, as with all my electronic toys, I gave it the royal treatment as soon as I got it with Rid-Ox, the ultimate in preventive maintenance. It is a chemical that cleans, destroys and prevents oxidation of electrical contacts, greatly reduces electromechanical wear-and-tear, and actually improves conductivity. It makes stuff work great and last forever! All jacks, switches, and the volume pot have been treated.
I noticed that Tianyun now has a 2009 model. I took a look and there don't seem to be any major design improvements vs. the 2008 model, except for the USB interface. When I bought this (in mid 2009) I also purchased a PCLink USB-to-S/PDIF optical converter from the dealer. It's a simple little bus-powered interface that provides USB 2.0/1.1 access to your computer or what have you, if you don't have S/PDIF readily available to drive the Zero. I am including it with the amp, as well as a cheap 1” optical cable.
I am also throwing in two nice cables. One is an uncommon SHEILDED 6” IEC power cable, ideal if you want to run signal cables parallel and in close proximity to it. The other is your choice of[ COLOR="Blue"]one of my own, handmade, high-quality RCA cables[/COLOR]. I have lengths between 3”- 10”. I thought it would be a nice bonus for anyone that wants to use the Zero as a preamp.
The Zero came with the OPA2604 opamp standard. I can't tell you what other semiconductors are in this amp, only that virtually everyone on this forum that has heard the Zero straight out of the box is impressed. I only bought it after enough research convinced me that this is the ultimate bang-for-your-buck headphone amp. And it certainly delivers.
The toroidal transformer alone is magnificent for anything at this price. And the specs. are delicious...
