Military(ish) gear-Fi

Went for a long walk today and wandered into a surplus store.
Quite amazed by the amount of mil- or quasi-mil gear they have.
The guys who work there say that most people who purchase such items are Airsoft players. None of the items are really vintage, though they do have some replica SS helmets.
Got myself a boonie, MARPAT.
Any guys into mil gear?

Whoa, whoa. Nobody on Head-Fi plays Airsoft? Besides, talking about people who are into military gear here. Who are you to judge?

I don't like glorifying violence, but I would appreciate a military grade ultrasonic bug repellent if they make one, just to fry their nasty little carcasses out of sight during their spring fertility rites.

Why play airsoft to being with then? Stick to videogames...'killing' people aren't fun, leave that stuff on the screen. Or better yet, join the military.

I camped in a tent for a summer and used a military surplus store self-inflating bedroll. Second most comfortable bed I ever tried, first being very thick grass.

If you're gonna join the military for that reason you're not worth it to be there, heck you won't even get in with that state of mind. Everyone who is either in there or informed enough knows that.

Not much into the militairy myself. Proud anarchist here. I do however like militairy grade equipment.

Green army jacket with a removable fleece inside fur is on its fourth year now, summer and winter its a great tough outdoor jacket.
Dutch army boots made by Bata; up to 25cm waterproof, verry tough and i can do everything i want with them. Though my last 2 pairs were definetly b-stock, stitching letting loose after 1-1,5 year. Even though i wear them untied most of the time that shouldnt happen after 1,5 year.
SOG Powerlock; got it little under a year ago. Strong, easy opening pliers, replaceable tools, build like a tank.
Getting a pair of Ma1 boots for work and a pair of waterproof Magnums for everyday and outdoor/forest/camping use

You MAY not believe it, but people DO join the military because they want to kill people. While that MAY not be a common occurrence, it does happen.

Not sure what the animus against airsoft is about as all it really does is bring a bit of military-style machismo into office drone / bored student life. Really no different than all the other .mil inspired gear like Maxpedition bags, Strider knives, and the horde of M4geries that have dominated the firearms market for the past few years.

Sure some people take things too far, but that's true pretty much anywhere you go.

I remember me and my roommate picked up a couple of cheap Airsoft pistols a piece because there were a couple of years some time back where you couldn't walk into any dorm on campus without getting shot at with them. A small pistol or shield and a pair of safety glasses almost became necessities of life.

people like to look down on people for all kinds of reasons. As long as you're not dressing up like stuffed animals, do whatever you find fun.

I like NATO straps.

lol @ cyberspyder. harsh man. You sound like Brandon @ TAD Gear haha.

I loves me my mil toys and gear, and admit to being a poser, because if I do enlist in my lifetime, it will be as a 68W
