Wire a jack to an XLR, what connects to what.

EDIT - in this case I used a Switchcraft jack plug, which has terminals which are a different way round from some other jacks. You must check with the manufacturer how the jack is made and which terminal goes to the tip, ring and sleeve first.

I am trying to make a headphone cable . I have a Switchcraft mini XLR 3 pole TA3F and a jack plug 3 pole. Which bit goes to which? I cannot figure out from Switchcrafts own site.

I think 1 on the XLR is ground and goes to the sleeve on the jack. Is that right? What about 2 and 3 on the XLR and the tip and ring on the jack?

Thanks!

I think I have found the answer; from XLR to jack

1 is ground and goes to the sleeve
2 is + and goes to the tip
3 is - and goes to the ring.

Can someone confirm that thanks!

May as well show the pictures now it is done. With the jack the ground is hidden under a plastic tab, the white signal cable has some heatshrink on it and the blue return is behind it.....

...and on the XLR, with heat shrink on both the signal and ground...
