Sennheiser MX 980 Expression - Page 15

I doubt any company than Sennheiser would waste time/money to produce an earbuds that will sound better than MX980. Unless it's a labor of love. Everyone seems to prefer IEMs / headphones.

^probably.

but most chinese companies create such hi end earbuds to compete in the earbud realm.

such companies exist like the hisounds, yuins and the blox.

still, no one has created as near perfect as the mx980.

from build, to tuning, to included accessories.

I've been listening to Periphery's new album with these via ASIO -> E17 as DAC/Amp -> 0 gain / 26 vol. Boy what an experience. Fast, full bodied much like a very good portable headphone, very detailed, mids are spectacular...as if you can count the iterations of the electric guitar's distortion, exceptional soundstage (for and earbud). These are truly the best earbuds, and can compete with many good headphones seriously. Really worth the price IMHO for the best earbuds. Don't mind the accessories, just from the sound, it's really worth the price. I prefer it over GR07 (which is my most high-end IEM) whenever I don't need isolation.

I love MX980s and only want the hooks for comfort for long listening sessions.

I agree about creating something better. To be honest, I prefer MX980s over my W4R and now that I have bought OMX980s, I am thinking about selling W4Rs.

That is what they have hooks for, right?

Yeah I mean the hooks are very good you won't regret buying it, unless you use them while lying with the side of your face on a pillow. While with MX 980, it's almost designed to be worn like that.

Cool, I also prefer MX / OMX 980 to any in-ears I have (my most 'high end' one is just a GR07) if no isolation is needed. They sound so much more natural, the dynamics and imaging is superb! Plus, it's not hard to drive. These earbuds are really phenomenal. And of course you don't get the low-end you get from an in-ear so bassheads should be realistic with their expectations. They are the perfect earphones without isolation for me.

100% agreed.

P.S. I do not sleep or lie in bed with earphones in, so there is nothing to worry. Plus I still have MX980s.

It's just sad that a lot of people think of it as just a "bling bling" due to its looks and that it is priced as such due to its accessories and aesthetics. They really should hear the gear first before bashing them.

That is just how it is, earbuds are not very popular around here.

Listening to my MX980's right now and love them!

The only problem I have is that you know the rubber bits right on the end/outside of the buds, one of them keeps coming off, i'm lucky that i've always found it and now everytime I use them or take them out I have to check to see if the rubber bit is still on it. Is there any way I can get a replacement? They aren't as comfy without the rubber ring. Its just a shame for the price that they are and it started happening only a few months after use. I do take care with them as well like all my things.

That is strange. I have had mine for well over 2 years (I dug through all my posts to find the exact date which was June 3rd, 2010 when I received them) and have never had a problem like that. I do not even remeber what htey look like without the covers as they have never fell off.

Have you made sure that you put them on properly? The rubbery covers I mean.

I've had these for around 2 years as well I think. Not a single problem durability wise at all.

Great earphones for those that are not looking for a bassy experience (or can cope with not much deep sub bass). It's got a nice full soundstage, great imaging capabilities and good detailing capabilities overall though of course it isn't going to match up with armature iem's in micro detailing (not much does to tell the truth).
