I just wanted to add that despite the fact that I haven't heard any orthodynamics so far I think they should be included as well

I saw an AudioZone Amp-1 and K1000 on the for sale side before. A long time ago I tried to diy a gain clone and use lead acid battery's. If I do get a K1000 one day I will buy some kind of gain clone just because it is so portable. Stuble just seems to be an instigator. $1400 headphones and a $1700 amp built with top quality parts isn't good enough? Maybe he is just trolling.

What about the R10 ? No dynamic time at all ?
I've been waiting on the BHSE for what seems like years, but actually it's only a year and 10 months . Without the amp for the package, the O2mk1 isn't quite the bride, it's still the bridesmaid. The 007T and exstata's can't push the O2 quite to beat the HD800 for me. There is definitely the potential in the sound but O2 can't quite make it. Hopefully sometime soon the amp god will smile on me.What would be an interesting perspective for the 'stat verses dynamic threads would be opinions of someone(s) who came into the question from the opposite direction. i.e. who had spent lots of time on 'stats but was totally inexperienced in dynamics. Get their take on a top drawer dynamic or two. 'Stats definitely wow someone coming from any dynamic by virtue of what they do different, but I'm not convinced it's absolutely better. Perhaps just better as a contrast to the familiar, which for 99% is dynamics. |

I haven't heard a 2050 system, but if you're going to jump into stats, your best bet IMO is to grab vintage gear - an old SRM-1/MK-2 (or one of the SRD transformers if you have a suitable speaker amp) plus a vintage Lambda will run you ~$600, and to my ears is competitive with some of the best dynamic rigs out there.
Some people have hangups about buying used or old gear, but the fact that there is so much vintage Stax gear out there for sale speaks to how reliable (and fantastic) it is. I did (and would again) just try a piece of vintage gear, as it doesn't cost nearly as much and provides truly outstanding performance. |
