ATH M50 or Senn PC 350 for gaming

This will be purely for gaming. Rarely movies or music.

Mic is a plus but not a must. Which one do you guys suggest or may be a few more options?

Thanks

For TS/vent use you will want open cans. Coiled cable is a recommendation too.

I have a pair of M50's and a pair of Senn 595's and have a ton of experience gaming with both for games like MW2, GoW2, Forza 3, etc. The M50's have more bass presence and slightly better positional awareness so you can pair those up with a good mic and you should be all set. The M50's are simply better for gaming from my experience. Music, on the other hand, is more of a toss-up.

thanks guys

My initial list had the Logitech G35 in it too.

If there not much difference I would go for the PC350 just because it has a mic in it.

I thought AT was better when it comes to music, or are u saying the Senn's are a better option

When it comes to music it seems to depend more on my mood when choosing between the 595's and M50's. The M50's are clearly a better option for gaming though.

M50s would do pretty well - plenty of bass for gaming and accurate sound-stage for positioning - but the soundstage isn't really that big / wide. No mic obviously.

You're much better off buying the Audio Technica AD700 for pure gaming purposes.
agreed, ad700

but of those two options, M50 for sure.

if you need open headphones, why not trying PC 360...but AD700 should be good to if you don't really need the mic

The pc350 and the HD595 don't sound the same at all, i have the pc350,and it sounds rather flat and lacks any character, and it's actually not that good for gaming despite being a gaming headset, while positioning is decent, it can't compete with the virtual 7.1 gaming headsets or with the average bang for the buck open headphones.
I don't know why the sennheiser guy said the pc350 shares the same drivers with the hd595, because just by looking at the specs you can see that they are totally different, i know that specs doesn't say anything, but they really do sound very different.
Anyway, for gaming i would definitely take the ath-ad700 over the pc350, and while i haven't heard the ath-m50 (which sells for 250$ for some reason here in israel) i am pretty sure it's better than the pc350.

Well...after getting the siberias and now the HARX900, i would say get the beyerdynamic mmx 2. I have considered all tier 1 "gaming headphones" (pc350, pc360, ad700) and i would prefer the mmx 2. You don't need to spend a **** load of money on headphones if you're planning to go competitive because headphones can only do so much (only a slight increase in positioning) in helping you game better.

I am a competitive COD4 player and i wished i had gone for the MMX 2 because it has a boom mic (i hate clip on's - makes a fcking mess) and it has a usb output which is ideal for LANs. The HARX900 cable is so frickin long that it's still tied up from the day i bought it.

Close cans will isolate you from the outside, and the outside from you. open will not. this is not a very detailed explanation but that's all you really need to know. so waht you are looking for are closed-back cans.

ok thanks, thats what i thought.

I'm concerned about Sup's comment though that I need open cans for TS or vent, i cannot think of a reason why that would be, so looking for some light into that.

No reason they have to be open. I just got some M50's yeasterday and played some BF2 last night using Creative CMSS. Positioning was much better than I thought for closed phones. They sounded great. They are a bit heavy, clamp a little and the pleather pads get warm, but thats the price you pay for closed phones that have good isolation. I think they make pretty good gaming phones if you need closed, which I do.
