I bought an iPod and wanted better headphones. Searches lead to head-fi.

Hey Moophus, your first post was much better than mine! Man, I really think House music is where I like the RE0 iems the best so far.

Pepsi: yeah, search is better a lot of the time but I did get help from someone named Stang when I started a thread asking for help. This really does seem to be a pretty nice community (and entertaining at times).

A lot of us joke about finding this forum being a bad mistake, but I still think Head-Fi might end up being cheaper than many of my girlfriends have been and I'll have more than just pictures to show for it!! Also, wine costs a lot and disappears too...I like the headphone collection that I am ending up with (and will still have). (See how I'm rationalizing?)

Cheers All!

Whats wrong with your english ?

Looks fine to me!

@CeeTee - Re0's are pretty much the one iem under £100 i've never tried. By the time they get to the UK they are about the same price as ety hf5's. They are also not much talked about except on head-fi and I had the hf5s before I discovered head-fi. Favourite genre being house on them is unusual but it's all personal preference. If you like them then don't let anyone say you shouldn't but there were two main things that stopped me buying them, an impedance of 64R tends to indicate they'll fill out their S/S with an amp which I didn't want and isolation is reputed not to be that good.

Back on topic: It seems either people were disparing over crap earphones or being born and bred hi-fiers.

Thanks, Marcus C. I updated my post questioning the RE0's and now I am hearing the break-in to bass. E5 makes a difference with these iems. I will refrain from making any judgments until at least initial break-in periods are done. I'm learning...

Yes, I agree...wondering what the story with all the Headphoneus Supremus' is. I guess I'll find out along the way. One thing I can say is that listening to great headphones and reading Head-Fi is like eating cereal as a kid and reading the box...

Ah, Miscreant has a thread from 2006 called "Your story?" and he got a Headphoneus Supremus story that is eerily like mine:

Fast foreward to NOW!

In March I rediscovered cans when I bought MS-1s trying to match the sound of my beloved Axiom speakers since with all the kids around the house, getting quality listening time was harder and harder to find!!

I used to sit in the sweet spot listening to each instrument doing it's thing and having lots of fun with some of my better CDs. Classical music was my favorite and a real hoot since the speaker system did as good a job with BIG music as it did with rock and country.

The speakers and sub bring orchestras into my home. The phones put me on the stage and into the recording studio!!

Phones though, did an even better job in resolving the smaller details that the fireplace in the listening room did a fine job in snuffing out. For rock, near-rock and country plus the ocassional smaller classical pieces, the cans display everything! It's all right there! Exactly how the performers perform it!

Another change snuck in on me.

Before the cans, my electrical guitar sort of went into the background with my practicing on an amp only rarely. The classical guitar came out and was out for years. With the cans, and more rock CDs being purchased to take advantage of the qualities of my Alessandros' in rock music listening, I find that my dear old Gretsch is calling for more attention again too!

Bottom line though. Studying the music in it's most intimate details has begun to be the primary joy of music.

Thank you, Alessandro.
I first learned about headphones from my Dad's pioneers (look like white marshmallow cups) that he got in Japan on leave while serving in Vietnam. Now the MS-1i's got me into cans and I will be playing guitar through them after re-stringing...

Back in 2004 I searched Google for some nice supplementary head-/earphones for my then newly acquired iPod (3rd. generation).
One of the hits were Head-Fi.org and here I am...
