What's your story?

I was in an airport 4 months ago and I saw someone with the coolest metal headphones.

I thought it would be EASY to find them online later and so I didn’t ask the person what they were…BAD mistake! The closest thing that I can guess that they were are the Ultrasone HFI-780’s. But I didn’t remember that much branding on the cups…

Anyway, that started my surfing and that led to Head-Fi and now it has been 1.5 months on Head-Fi and I have now spent $452. I tell myself I will stop with the iBasso D4 and an LOD. That brings me to about $700.

I didn’t end up getting Ultrasones but I LOVE the MS-1i’s…and I really like the 50’s kitschy looks too.

What’s your story?

Alessandro MS-1i $115 + shipping
Grado Bowl pads from TTVJ $27
Senn HD414 Pads $ 10
Grado Case $30
FiiO E5 $21
HiFi RE0 iems $ 85
Yuin PK1 $164

Well I originally came here because I hated my old skullcandys and my current Sony MDR XD100's. I ended up ordering some ATHM50's and MS1i's. That cost me about 210 usd. Hopefully I will receive both headphones in the mail this week.

A long long time ago I had (still have in fact) a sony mini disc player/recorder. You would have to be 2/3 deaf to call the headphones they included adequate so I upgraded to the MDR-e888lp

It was all downhill from there.

I figured I needed a good pair of headphones so I could study without bothering my roommates. After a lot of research (somehow I never discovered Head-Fi during all of this) I ended up with settling on a pair of HD280's. I got them for Christmas and really loved them.
I don't really know how I got here. I guess I was just curious about what else was out there. After a three weeks or so of reading I decided to get another pair to see what the differences were. I flipped a coin and ended up with a pair of D2000's which I love. I came in thinking $100 on headphones was a lot and now I have a pair of $200 ones and am currently looking for an amp. This place is really scary.

I just bought a new pair of E888SP's this week. It was the first headphone I wanted too, I just wanted to go back to my roots. Good sound for what they are.

some years ago, i bought a pair of senn hd580 to wear when i played counter-strike. my bro had hd570 and i just wanted something better than his.
i dont remember how i stumbled onto this site but when i did, the first thing i bought was a cmoy amp and govibe v6. hd580 sounded so much better even though my source was the headphone-out jack from my desktop computer.
after that ..............

Found Headroom on the net they were selling an Amp case combo for my portable CD player. Someone at headroom mentioned this site. Like Whitney to crack I was addicted. Though she probably spends less a year on her habit

Interesting. I have always liked headphones, and was looking for more info even before there was head-fi. I got in and out of the hobby (of looking for better headphones) because of different issues but some time last year, after just looking at head-fi for YEARS I've finally decided to register for an account here.

My situation is almost exactly the same as nikongod. I acquired a new Sony MiniDisc player to replace my PCDP and decided the headphones were uncomfortable and lacking in sound quality. I quick check online for cheap good quality headphones led me to Head-fi and recommendations for the KSC-75 and PortaPro.

Kinda the same for me too. Came here looking to upgrade from the Porta Pro and darn look at me now. Now I have to stay cause I have spent too much money, LOL.

First pair after joining Head-Fi: MDR-V6s. Pain (the comfort, not the SQ). I've gone through A700s, AD700s, HD485s, Some MB Quarts whose model number I forget, DR150s (twice), M50s (twice), SR60s, and DT990 Pros. I may have forgotten one or two, but I ended up with recabled K701s and an amp. Trying...to...be...content....

Thanks for the stories, it's interesting how this community and the quality of the gear sucks you in...it's kind of like an RPG in real life. Leveling up with audio gear!

I saw Béla Fleck and the Flecktones in 2006 at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. The drummer, Future Man, was wearing PortaPros, which my friend pointed out to me as sounding absolutely great. He didn't know where to find them in Canada though, so I did some googling, and found a head-fi FS listing from a local guy in Edmonton, where I was living at the time. I bought his PortaPros and did some more research on the site, as well as on HeadRoom. Eventually I signed up and started spending money.

Bought an X-Fi XtremeGamer for gaming purposes (surprise!). A year and a half later I decided that it made no sense using $25 headphones with a $50 card and bought an SR60i after reading some impressive reviews.

Now, 10 months after that, I'm $600 deeper and looking for my shovel.

I was looking for a pair of headphones to replace a pair gone bad.... I can distinctly remember reading threads about the Etymotic ER-4P and thinking people must be NUTS to spend that kinda money on headphones. The rest is history

PS: I bought the Ety's not long after!
