Ok this is an interesting discussion... Hmmmmmmmm
If it were possible for a laser to burn a hole through a CD I would have ruined the following CDs thousands of times.
1) Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown from Alright Again! (Rounder CD 2029) "Sometimes I Feel Myself Slippin" This is just one of many tracks that show off his amazing guitar skills. It must be heard over and over... "Sometimes I feel myself slippin BUT I guarantee you I'll never fall!" This has to be one of the greatest top 5 blues song ever. Listen to it. It's more than a song its a doctrine to live by. hah
2. Andre Previn from Live at the Jazz Standard (Decca 440 013 20-2) "My Funny Valentine" Remember Andre's great Jazz albums from the '50s and have you ever wished there was a modern, great recording with today's modern technology? Well there is! Check this CD out! Andre had his piano flown to NY to record in this intimate Jazz Club. If you care about Jazz piano cuts this one is perfect... perfect.
My last oft repeated song is the perfect cure for a frustrating day. It is hauntingly beautiful and if you just let the Uillieann pipe music take you, you'll float back in time and find yourself in ancient Ireland.
3. Davy Spillane from either Spillane's Pipedreams or from Celtic Graces: A Best of Ireland (Hemisphere c/o I.R.S. 724383121625) "Midnight Walker" You have no doubt put together some high quality music reproduction system(s) where you live... get either of these CDs (I'd recommend Celtic Graces) and fire up "Midnight Walker", track 1.
