Personally yes I would rockbox it, there is just something cool about using open source software in my opinion :)

I'd also just use -V0 lame encoded mp3's for portable use. Do a ABX test to see if you can hear a difference, then think will you be able to notice that slight difference on the go?

It's really a matter of personal preference.

PS: Congratulations on getting your clip+, I bought mine some time last week. I REALLY hope I get it tomorrow so I can use it when I go away next week.

Otherwise it'll be a quiet one week away from home :/

thanks

when i get a memory card i heard two things come up is there a way to tell media monkey not to double up on songs?

^I'm guessing you're referring to synching a list to both the memory card and the player's flash memory and not having duplicates when you browse the files on the player? I'm not sure :/ I mainly put the stuff I know I like on the player and the new stuff I want to listen to and see if I like on the SD card so I can delete it all after checking it out.

I'll look into that tonight though :)

PS: Oh and Rockbox is awesome. I'm gonna probably put it on mine either tomorrow or sometime this weekend. Maybe :)

rockbox on the clip+ is pretty much stable. I;ve been using it ever since I got it and don't notice anything different with my Fuze v1 (which is stable). The only difference is that you have to manually install rockbox on the clip+ where with the Fuze you just use their installer and it does all the work.I haven't tried the microSDHC on the clip+ but I don't own one so no matter to me.

@Young Spade: you really should give it a try. If anything the navigation on rockbox is much better than OF. I have hated the navigation on all the Sansa dap's that I have tried and they are all pretty much the same. Some of it makes no sense and pretty frustrating ever after you get used to it.

+1 for Rockbox... I installed a few days back - write-support is now enabled, and it seems stable enough for me (though it crashes on Radio/Record, which I don't use).

What a coincidence. I also bought mine from that guy. How long did it take for yours to arrive? And did it come with the most current firmware?

and will i hear a difference between mp3 and flacs with my metrofi220s?
I haven't heard anything bad about it. I personally bought my Clip+ from an international ebay site. To be more specific this one. SanDisk 8GB Sansa® Clip Plus MP3 Player (Black) Hot!! - eBay, iPod MP3 Players, Electronics. (end time 18-Apr-10 18:32:04 AEST)
As for hearing a difference with FLAC and mp3. It depends on your ears. When you get the player do some blind tests to determine for yourself.
It's easy to have your music software to convert higher bitrate files on the go to mp3's or something similar if you want to later down the track. Aka, you don't need multiple libraries of multiple copies of FLAC songs and mp3 versions.

I ordered it last monday at like night and it arrived yesterday.

and i didn't think it come with the most recent firmware but updating is easy.

Is there any point of using replaygain if i don't experience clipping?

EDIT: i was listening to the song before i forget slip knot hearing all these pops everywhere so i turn replaygain may gawd it sounded so much better

btw I used USPS Priority Mail International Flat Rate EnvelopeTM

I have ordered some ear buds using USPS First Class Mail InternationalTM on the same day and still hasn't arrived yet.

Oh and were would be a good place to get a 16 gb microsd?

will the 32gb cards get cheap any time soon?

(free) software that I use:

Exact Audio Copy to rip CD:s to wav-files

CDex to convert from wav- to mp3-format

MP3-gain to first analyze album volume level and set gain level to between 89-91 for albums (album gain, not track gain)

MP3-tag to tag multiple mp3-files

Media monkey to transfer to my DAP:s (besides the Creative Zen Touch for which I use Nomad & Notmad explorer and the Kenwood that requires Kenwood Media Application)

It might be good to set the volume in songs to an even level if you shuffle and mix older, more dynamic albums with newer results of the "loudness war".

For me MP3-gain has worked great and I never have any clipping or distortion. I might need to use more volume on the DAP and thus using more battery, but that is a sacrifice that I am willing to do.
