Annoying (yet quite harmless) computer bug

This is a Sony VAIO VGN-FE660G, genuine Windows XP Media Center Edition [OEM] with SP3. Now, every time I restart the computer, the Windows and buttons appearance would go back to 'Windows XP style'. I want it in Media Center Style (since somehow the computer seems to run faster like this).
It doesn't affect much, it just changes itself every time I reboot. The screen-saver and wallpaper do not change, however.
I tried saving the theme as 'My Favorite Theme' with no avail. The appearance will still change itself to Windows XP style, every time.
Please help. Thank you in advance.
PS: A much less urgent problem, Windows Update errors itself when I go to its site. Automatic Updates still work, though.

Red flag. Red flag. You need to check your machine for spyware/malware. I would suggest starting here READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide - MajorGeeks Support Forums

They might seem a little heavy-handed at times, but you may well have some unwelcome stuff on your machine.

Good luck!

Wrong. Scanned system in Safe Mode with ECLS.

I've never heard of ECLS, so I can't comment on that. Don't you think it's odd that the microsoft windows update site doesn't work? Microsoft hasn't changed that site in years. Oh well. Good luck.

Second problem FIXED: System date was incorrect.
First problem, well, just did a full restore and is now updating. I'll see how it goes.
