I got a Peachtree Nova today (from Magnolia Hi-Fi) and as soon as I turn it on there's a buzzing noise coming from the speakers, even when there is nothing plugged in (except the speakers of course). I can hear it from a few feet away.

I tried a different power cord and speaker cables but the noise remains the same. Changing the volume, or muting it does not affect the volume of the buzzing noise.

Any idea what is going on? Should I just take it back to the Magnolia store?

I a pair of Focal 706V speakers. There was no buzzing noise with my previous integrated amp (the Music Hall a25.2).

Yep, it's gotta be the amp. I have a Decco and have never experienced this problem, but things happen. Best bet is to take it back ASAP.

Do you have another amp you could plug into the same outlet to see if it makes the same buzz? Also was the tube in the Decco in the loop? If yes take it out to see if the buzz goes away, if it does it could be the tube is loose in the socket or you may have a bad tube. Contact the Peachtree customer service people, my interactions with them have been very positive. Good luck.

Could be a bad cable making poor contact. Sounds like a ground loop of some kind if the cables all check out.

Peete.

I took it back to Magnolia Hi-Fi today. We spent over an hour testing with different speakers (I even brought my speakers to the store for testing). Same problem. We also noticed that the left channel has a louder buzzing noise. We tried a cheater plug in the store, but no effect. The Nova that they have on display also has a similar problem, but the buzzing was not as loud.

They didn't have the rosewood color in stock so they ordered it and will come in the next few days (but I probably won't be able to pick it up until Saturday; April 17). I will then test it out in the store before taking it home.

I took the old Nova back at home, and tried it in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and connected to a Monster Power Pro 3500 line conditioner.

My Music Hall a25.2 integrated amp does not have this buzzing; it is silent when nothing is playing. The tube appears to be seated properly.

It should be noted that the buzzing is noticeable from about 2 feet away (not very loud). If I seat further, the room would have to be very quite for the buzz to be noticeable. There should not be any buzzing noise at all, right?

We'll see how the new Nova works out. I'll keep you guys updated. In the mean time, any suggestions on things to try is welcomed.

EDIT: Someone else had the same problem: http://tinyurl.com/ybdv63m
He/she said: "I have a noticeable buzz in the left channel (can hear clearly from about 2-3 ft from the speaker). I have tried swapping speaker connections, disconnecting the Sonos and plugging the Nova into a different outlet and the buzz stays the same in the left channel only. It stays at the same volume no matter what I set the volume to on the amp. Right channel is practically silent so I think something is wrong with the amp. I will be contacting SignalPath to investigate this issue."

A posts down, on 5-11-09, 10:06 am, David Soloman (owner of Peachtree?) posted: "Please give us a call and we'll exchange the unit for you. You should have no buzz in either channel."

Yes, I tried that too. No change in the volume of the buzzing noise.

An interesting thing: There is less buzzing when the speakers are in mute (i.e., pressing the "mute" button on the remote or plugging in the headphones, which mutes the speakers). But the left channel still has more buzzing.

EDIT: Also, there is no buzzing on the headphones.

Hello, I am having a problem that sounds extremely similar to this. I know this thread is four years old now, but is there any update on if you were able to solve the buzzing problem?

I have had buzzing in my Nova v.1.01 for about two years, and the following lengthy list is what I've tried:

1) The hum is still there, even if everything is unplugged except the speakers.

2) I purchased a grounded plug adapter to eliminate a ground loop as the issue. The buzz was still there.

3) I moved to a new house (a very new house that is up to codes on all electrical wiring), and still there is a buzz. This is the same house I tried the grounded plug adapter in.

4) I purchased a medialink 6ft set of cables with banana plugs to replace my existing cables which were just bare wire on the ends. This did not make a difference either.

5) Using the media link cables, I then switched the speakers to the alternate channels. This time instead of the buzz getting less in the right speaker when I turn the volume up, it gets less in the left speaker (and stays the same in the right speaker).

6) I tried using the Nova with or without a power strip between it and the wall, with no difference. I have tried the Nova in two different houses.

7) It doesn't seem to make a difference if I select different inputs on the front panel of the Nova.

8) I have unplugged everything from the Nova, including the speakers, and plugged in headphones. The buzz is then in the headphones! I have noticed with headphones that if you start the volume knob at zero (no music playing), and increase the volume, the buzz does tend to become less, as you move the volume up.
