just curious and want to know which (if any) of the current production EL34 sounds good.

also how much better are the NOS stuff?

thanks!

My preference in current production is Winged C, though I haven't heard the "treasure" series by Shuguang. Of course, the Mullard xf2 are far preferred over any current production I know.

Question is, what is the amp?

You might want to consider the Gold Lion reissues. I haven't heard the EL34's, but I own some of the KT-88's. Very impressive both sonically and in build quality.Probably the highest quality non-botique modern tubes I've seen. For the price of the "treasure" series, I'd rather have NOS. Mullard xf2 is still king.

Another vote for the SED Winged C here too. Better build quality then most of the other new production tubes which is why they are usually more expensive.

no amp yet. I was fantasizing about a EL34 output stage for electrostatics.

Probably won't happen though (lacking motivation ).

FTW I'm using SED's right now in my ESX and they sound pretty nice connected directly to the headphones.
