What's the purpose of hiding the cost of items once sold?

Why is it accepted practice to retroactively hide the asking price of items advertised on the the FS/FT Forums once they're sold? Since there's a high likelihood that that same item will be for sale later, as a consumer of used goods I want to know the history of those goods, including their previous prices. So what's with the pseudo-subterfuge?

some people might want to sell their items cheaper than average price while some other don't. it can prevent some price matching.

Often, the selling price is very different from the asking price, so it may be somewhat misleading to leave the asking price on...

because they're too ashamed of having paid such a large amount of money in the first place?

Maybe to prevent price drops on another similar items.

Hey...wasn't there a contest on picking the date this topic came up again? Blanking the price after the item has sold is a conspiracy that reaches up to the Super 5 that run the world. It would behoove you to let it go.

It helps remove price pressure for sellers.

Yes! This topic is usually posted in The Members' Lounge though, so not as many people will see this one.

I started doing it because with some of my sold items, I still got PMs seeing if they were still available. With the "$SOLD", I no longer am asked if they are available.

As a seller, I don't. Seriously, I did it because everyone else did. I guess they did because people would ask if they are still available. The odds of me selling the same item are zero.

Here's mine. What's with "interest check"? Sounds like "I'll only sell them if someones interested". Well, Duh!

Or it's a tease. I have these, are you interested? Yes. Well we will see... nyah nyah I am NOT going to sell them.

And why get coy about price? Either you know what you want for them, really want to put them on auction without admitting to that, need to hide your asking price from someone (which sounds questionable) or don't know what to ask. And in that case you can just look up previous sales to find out what recent...

...oh yeah...
