NEW Ploytec USB Audio ASIO Driver for Windows (version 2.8.40)

Guys,

I'm not sure whether this has been discussed or not but Ploytec has just released a new version for their USB driver, version 2.8.40 which replaces their old 2.8.15. The website says it's compatible for XP, Vista and 7 and available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Anyone care to take a dive? They have a demo version in their websites.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and impressions.

I tried the 2.8.40 on XP twice...

-"HA NG COAX": fixed sample rate, no automatic bit-match...so setting it to 44.1 in their drivers panel and playing 48kHz audio was too slow...worthless.

-"M-Audio Audiophile USB": works fine! but no KS. OTOH, it's automatically bit-matched, but you have to close foobar and reopen it each time the sample rate changes. worthless.

these drivers are just a gimmick, and a major rip-off for $100.

Ploytec USB drivers have never supported high resolution (88.2, 96, 172.4, 192 kHz) digital files, and unless the new version supports those, the price is not justified IMO.

So, the general consensus now is it's not worth the hassle?

The devices that are compatible with hi-res usually automatically detect and pass the native sample rate without having to check any boxes..

I have a Tascam US-144 which is supposed to run on these drivers, and they're terribly buggy (on Win7). ASIO4ALL on the other hand has no such problems, and it doesn't sound any worse either.

I've been using their drives with Windows 7 x64 fine with Foobar.  Sounds great, and I prefer it to WASAPI output.  I have not done any substantial testing and definitely not any double blind.  It just works for me, sounds great, and functions as I expected, great.

Is it worth the cost?  *Shrug*  Up to you.  Luckily they have a demo for you to try.
