Any AKG's that can rival Sennheiser's HD800

Probably by alot in the Audiophile world, the HD800 would be regarded as the best headphone in the world, even myself I have listened to it and I have also listened to the Senns HD600 and AKG's K701, in which I really liked plus I did also love the HD600.

But do you think there are any AKG's out there that will will or can rival the HD800's, probably the K1000's or K702 ?

k702 is the same as the k701.

Variety is the spice of life. Why chain yourself to 1 pair of speakers when you can have 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 or perhaps even a few more pr of headphones?

No, everything from AKG sounds different from the HD800.
Perhaps describe what you want to be different from the HD800 and someone could point you in the right direction.

The K702 has a detachable cable and is not white like an ipod or toilet bowl.

Interesting thread...

I wonder how this thread will end...likely in a complete shambles.

FWIW, I owned the K701 for quite some time and really enjoyed it (many here do not like it at all), but comparing it to the HD800, there is no comparison. The HD800 is a better headphone overall, but not by leaps and bounds. This is HiFi where the rules of diminished returns do indeed hold.

The K1000s were very impressive and still hold up very well from what I remember (it's been over a year since I heard them last) and do compete with the HD800s; but I still prefer the HD800s to them.

Just my two cents...

Now, I'll just sit back and watch the carnage.

I have both bass light and bass heavy K1000's and a HD800, plus other phones.
The HD800 is still my favourite 'phone.

The HD800 beats the K70x in almost every area, but like MacedonianHero said, it's not a slaughter. To my ears, the K701 still represents one of the best values in Head-Fi (if you already have a decent source and an amp that gives the K70x the juice they crave) - I still find the fact that a $250 headphone sounds as good as it does with acoustic genres damn impressive. I did a writeup of these cans a few months back here if you're interested, although a couple of people reacted pretty strongly to my even bothering to compare the K701 and HD800. Everyone hears different, I guess.

K-1000 would be AKG's rival for the HD-800. I have both at this point.

On a scale of 0 to 100 where 0 is $2 flea market earbuds and 100 is Sony R-10, I would give the HD-800 a 92 and K-1000 a 89.

Seriously, I prefer the HD-800 to the K-1000, but not by that much.

Let's see if the rumored new flagship AKG materializes. That could be a contender.

Or AKG could fill in the huge, gaping $500-1000 gap where the HE-5 is right now and the HE-5LE and LCD-2 will be (I view W5000 and RS1i as more niche, not entirely fair I know). I'm sure some will be disappointed if that happens but it might be a good business decision and drive prices down for the rest of us.

The MSRP on the K701 is $500. One would have to be some sort of speshul to pay that, but there it is.

Completely forgot about that. Should have known better, I remember when the 701 was super FOTM and closer to that price.
