Considering the AD700, but worried about head size

Been looking around, and since amazon has them for fairly cheap it seems like they're the best for the price with good soundscape. However, I'm quite small (5"5, 125 lbs- ugh asian genes) and from my rather rough measurements, my head circumference is about 22" which is apparently on the smaller size.

Are they going to be too big for me? I've also read here that some people put a rubber band on it; would that help? If not, is there anything comparable in terms of specs/price?

Currently I'm using er-6i's but I'd like to get some headphones (never had one before, and the only one I've tried was my roommate's akg-701 which are way out of my price range XD).

Thanks!

Well, first of all I don't understand why anyone would pick the AD700's over the ATH-M50's. And secondly - they're known for being quite tight around the head. So there you have it Do a search on the forum to read up on the phones. I assure you they are well spoken of and one of the best bargains out there!

I think you'll be alright depending on how you want to use these, and if a loose feel is fine with you. I also consider myself to have a pretty small head, and at first I thought that these just didn't work for me as it seemed they were going to fall off, but now I've used them for multiple 8+ hour sessions and love the comfort. They are still really loose, and if I wanted something to use on the move these wouldn't fit the bill, but for being stationary I enjoy them.

I'm 6'4" and my head is only 10" around. Ok, not really, it's 24" but I guess that's small? I don't know. I myself tried the ATH-AD700 and it was the worst design ever for me. By far.

They felt like they were just sitting on my head and were so loose. If they were secure, that would be ok, but they were not. I could lean back in my chair to relax and they'd fall off my head. I tried to bend the wires inward but that only helped for awhile.

Seriously, for whatever reason, I felt like I was wearing earcups that were hanging onto my cheeks and my ears at the same time. It was the worst feeling ever. An hour after wearing them I felt like I still had them on.

I loved the sound (with a EQ that extends the bass 2 notches) but had to return them due to comfort.

EDIT: Since we have similar sized heads the SRH-840 might also fit poorly, but they're nowhere near as bad and have amazing sound quality. For a perfect fit I might suggest the Creative Aurvana Live or Denon D1001. Both are the same I think, but the Creative is only $65!

Strangely the SRH-240 fit better then the SRH-880. The SRH-440 might have the same fit at the 240.

They're also totally different from the AD700 and have little soundstage (which is what the OP said he was after).

Hmmm, that description is actually somewhat similar to how I think they are on my head. I wouldn't say they "fall off" my head, but if I do happen to lean my head back somewhat quickly (and sharply) they do move a bit and I might have to readjust them. Like I said earlier though, this actually doesn't bother me at all and for my own listening habits where I'm in a chair not moving around a whole lot I absolutely love them.

I guess maybe it's preference, but yes they WILL be loose if you have a smaller head so it's up to you if that works for you or not. It works for me, apparently not for others.

Soundstage and comfort?

Actually they're known for the opposite.

OP, I'm 6'2" and have I assume a proportionally large head, and even for me they are still fairly loose after a bit of inward bending. I have never been that forceful with them though, so I guess there could still be a flex in the headband that I haven't dared to try. They're great cans, but I think you're right to be skeptical about their size. On the other hand, my girlfriend has a tiny head and they fit her fine too...

I'm 6'2", 190lbs. The AD700s are HUGE, and they fit VEEEEERY loose. I loved mine, but I honestly HATED their fit and comfort. They are WAAAY too lose, even with a rubberband mod. You move your head a little and they slip right off. The cups are so big that any neck movement will be restricted by the AD700s.

Now the ATH-M50s have got the best fit and overall comfrot out of all the headphones I have bought/or tested. I greatly prefer their sound over the AD700s for more and more things. I only liked the AD700s for gaming with dolby headphone. They were sooo bass light for music that I couldn't find anything fun in them.

If you want more of a well rounded headphone that does EVERYTHING, I suggest the M50s. Their soundstage isn't big like the AD700s, but I certainly didn't miss the soundstage when everything else was funner on the M50s.

Hrm I guess I'd be safer off looking into other headphones then. I'll look into the ATH-M50s. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I love the M50s so much that I decided NOT to sell them even after owning my DT880s and soon to arrive DT770s. The M50s are just a joy for the price. I dont think you'll be disappointed.

I'm 6'0" with a tiny head and I want AD700s. Guess they're not for me
