I'm not even going to go there.

You can get spare (his and hers) tips and easily swap them out on virtually any IEM's and not worry about your clumsy but quirky and cute GF, nor about swapping ear wax. Dead silence from the outsider's standpoint. You won't do better with any cans I've ever heard.

Wow right-on ! i feel like we have the same problem and are going to solve it the same way

i will definitely give Shure a try since i have a tube amp and not sure i can affort the d5000

i know... i guess i'm finding excuses not like them... like how you can't eat popcorn with them because of how loud chewing crunchy things get... (just kidding)

Some Audio-Technicas have a similar sound to the RS1, but I'm not big on using mine with the HA-1A. Kinda noisy if I recall, even with a 5751 in place of the 12AX7 to drop the gain. Of course I'd expect an RS1 to be similarly noisy, but I don't remember. If you're into vintage, the K240 Sextett has Gradoesque mids and flies high out of the Cayin. Not the quietest closed headphones though.

yes i had quite a hard time getting rid of the hiss sounds of the ha-1a but finally ended up with quite a nice setup. All aimed at low gain and low noise

I will suggest Denon D7000. I assume that its price is going down but its sound quality is top-notch as some said.
