To you guys who have huge libraries - Page 3

I've got 3TB's, but I know folks who have much more.

I do all kinds of different approaches. I am at about 50K songs now after a recent large purge of duplicate songs.

Sometimes I seek out a particular album that was stuck in my head. Sometimes I play a certain song and then do a "genius playlist" (yes, I use iTunes). Sometimes i just go completely random. Sometimes I do a few very large playlists that are Genre based. Sometimes I put on an artist's discography and shuffle through it.

Basically any way you can play music, I do it.

I have the same problem since I listen to mainly classical. It's a bit unnerving to put these things on shuffle mode. Imagine having to listen to Fur Elise after the first movement of Mahler's 6th!

I only got around 1,200 all ripped in 320kbps.. 13.1 gbs

I enjoy listening to albums in their entirety. When I'm in commuting I usually seek out certain favorite songs..

A little over 3000 songs.

I prefer to listen to the actual CD/Vinyls though. Or Spotify. Or sometimes Internet radios.

I've got a "small" library compared to many (~5,900 songs; ~180GB; 99% ALAC). I tend to listen to whole albums, and what I listen to depends on my mood. I don't have many playlists (w/ multiple artists) due to volume variances (Apple's Sound Check blows).

Eww!

I think I'm rather unique in that I have a big library (nearly 14,000) but I don't use playlists. Ever. I just throw everything into one big fat playlist, sort it by my organized file path, and let Shuffle dictate where I end up. Though once I finish tagging all my songs by proper genre (which is hard), I might occasionally organize it by genre instead to match my mood.

Wow, yea I used iTunes for a LONG time (up until this year) to manage my music but now I don't think I could ever see myself using it. I would always wonder how people didn't like it but I can see why now.

I like being able to drag whatever songs I want to my devices whether it be organized by genre, artist, album, or song title

1. I make playlists of my favorite everyday songs on shuffle (not random)
2. I have a playlist just for Post-Rock for when im in the mood
3. Or I just go the the album I want if im in the mood for that.
Im up to 217gb in my music folder. 155gb is flac for 5105 songs 2 weeks 2 days 16 hours 54 mins
And I do have some stuff just in mp3 b/c I used to be stupid (well still am) and rip to mp3 and lost the cd.

Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm on a short flight or I'll only be listening for a short while I'll pick an album and go with it.

If I'm at the office or on a long flight I'll shuffle my library and hit play.

I have about 350 gigs of music, usually I'll give a CD a listen or two and decide if it's worthy of taking up HDD space. If not I'll delete it. I have a lot of music I don't listen to but it either has sentimental value or when I'm in a certain mood I'll look for it.

well, at this point its just the easiest thing for me to do. Setting up another player with that many songs would be a tremendous waste of time at this point, for the marginal gains I would get. I like Monkey's audio and winamp quite a bit, but I'm too invested in iTunes to actually make the switch. Especially since i would never be able to completely ditch iTunes, because I have an iPhone that needs to be updated periodically.

I'm making progress
I lowered my library count (not counting songs I haven't listened to yet) to ~1400+
I think I still need to weed some stuff out but it's coming together pretty nicely; I'm also adding songs to it daily so this is really something

I've got a modest sized library of 8500 songs, 25.6 days of music, about half is lossless.

I've gotten into the habit of listening to albums from start to finish.

If I'm going to listen to songs, I always go to Pandora (Pandora One is great, btw).

Otherwise, my library is around ~6000 songs, ~500 albums. I choose albums based on mood and listen to them in their entirety. I've recently gotten into vinyl which almost forces the listening of complete albums (or at least half of them). That's the way it should be IMO. But I've never been one to buy an album just for one song, and I understand I'm probably in the minority ... maybe not on this board, but in the general public

this is how i do things
