My family is very music oriented. My mother is a widely respected piano/theory/emd teacher, my brother has one of the largest CD collections I know of and I am the only who cares how good it sounds coming out of speakers/headphones. I find it very odd that my brother still happily listens to his music though his MBP speakers, I have offered to help him get a better setup but he is too tight with his money. LOL. The main reason that I moved into headphones is that my house is very loud. Once you have heard the same piano tunes with the same mistakes for 18+ years you need to find a way to escape.

It started with a $50 pair of Skullcandy Hesh which I bought to stay on my head while skating when I realized that tracks sound much clearer than stock headphones. Then I opted for $70 Skullcrushers. Then came the $60 Klipsch in-ear headphones. Then came the $80 Grado's. Along came sony's $50 extra bass headphones. Finally a pair of $170 sennheiser HD's satisfied my audiophile needs, and I know what I was missing in my music.

It never came from my family, though.

Got it from my dad. He bought me a pair of shure SE210 and an Ipod touch on my 11 or 12th birthday and he had a pair of speakers that almost cost more than his car.
