Listening to BT: Remember from Rare and Remixed right now from the headphone jacks on both an iPad wifi and iPhone 3GS. The iPhone seems to strain a bit more, have to work a bit harder and there are some parts in the detail and vocals that are a bit more harsh. The iPad seems to have a slightly smoother sound with a bit more detail and less noise/hiss. Probably has to do with having more power to run the internal amp?

Enough to notice if you aren't really trying? Probably not.

Edit: I think the BIGGEST improvement on the iPad over iPhone as far as music is concerned is the UI. It's usable instead of cramped and chopping off/scrolling track names.

Listening to selections from BT: These Hopeful Machines using the Whiplash LOD and RSA Shadow on it right now and it sounds fantastic.

I'm listening to my pad right now and typing my comments on it. I'm using my ue-11'S to listen to the grateful dead closing of winterland album. I've heard this album many times, amped, unamped, via my ipod directly, via my iphone directly. I suggest that this is the best unmapped I've ever heard it. Case closed. No debate. The boys in Cupertino have done something different. I don't know what, but it's great. I'm sure that with JE-13's or 16's this thing will rock. You may have a bigger platform than an Ipod or Itouch, but it is portable, and IT ROCKS!

I absolutely love my iPad! Multiple touch will be released in late April with iPhone 4.0.

Netfllix works like a charm for instant viewing with there first official app.

Edit: I meant multi-tasking.

Mr. Do,

I Hope you're right, but you are posting rumors, not fact. We'll see....

800 bucks for 64 gigs? I'll pass.......If I'm going to lug that thing around, I'd want at least 250 gigs I was really hoping for more space.

@ Chinesekiwi....awesome post!

Any idea when will Amazon begin to stock the iPad?

I suggest everyone should play with and ipad first before totally passing on it. I honestly had no intention of buying one until I actually used one. I'm quite impressed with it so far.

The iPad does have a lovely IPS screen. If I was doing a lot of digital photography right now I would love to get one just for photo sharing.

First of all it is $500 and doesn't come with any accessory or even a dock or case, typical of apple.you have to buy every single accessory so that they can rip you off.
Very few things actually come with all of the accessories you need out of the box, let alone cases. Even some items that used to ship with accessories no longer do. The Xbox 360 Elite used to ship with HDMI and component cables. Now it ships with composite cables so Microsoft can sell you a $50 HDMI cable and adapter.

Second,no flash support.how dumb is that.they always have a way to constrict anything on their devices.
I'm GLAD theres no flash. I use AdBlock Plus in Firefox and ClicktoFlash in Safari so I can get rid of it. The only site I go to that absolutely needs flash is Hulu. And I can happily avoid that and find TV shows elsewhere. I'd rather pay $2 for a TV show than watch it in Flash.

Third, the lay out is unbelievably terrible.A bunch of small icons that you tap on to open something.so childish and unsophisticated and not even customizable!
This just screams "I've never used an iPhone". The design is unbelievably simple. And it just plain works. And yes it is as customizable as OS X and Windows. I can't change the specific icons for apps, but I can change the arrangement, dock, and my wallpaper.

Third,no card readers or USB port so that I can attach my harddrive or memory stick.I expect at it's price point to do something better than just watching movies or subscribing in a magazine when clearly I can get it for free on desktop.
$30 adapter lets you pull pictures off devices using USB or SD card slot. Who uses memory sticks? Nobody. It's meant to be a companion to a computer, not a computer itself. I've only had it the one day so far and its already mostly replaced what both my Mac and PC do.

But on topic:

To me the sound quality is good. So far I've listened to my trust old ATH-A500s on it as well as my Grado SR60s. Sounds a bit better to my ears than my 80GB 5.5G iPod.

And the screen is gorgeous.

Could someone try comparing an iPod/iPhone to an iPad using some more demanding phones--like HD600? I think that would serve better to expose amplification disparities.

Thanks for the impressions.

Listening with my HF-2's. Not demanding Sorry. But they do sound dam good.
