How's the iPad headphone amp? - Page 8

qusp, same sound sig as the 3GS.  I do think the iPad has a little more oomph, but that maybe in my head due to its physical size difference.  But I too find the HP out on both the 3Gs and iPad great.  Very little motivation to add anything to it, but yet I am always curious- especially with the camera kit revelation.

I bought the iPad Wifi 16GB 3 weeks ago, extremely satisfied overally.

I only have an issue and is about the headphones port. Quality is fine, but sound level is around half the power than what I am used from my iPhone 3G and previous iPod. I have go reach 90% level to feed standard IEMs. I use to reach similar sound levels with 50-60% on my iPhone. I am reading this thread and starting to supect my unit is defective. Anyone suffers this same issue?

I have been really enjoying the iPad I got a few weeks ago - great for the quick head-fi check

I spent some time listening to its headphone out (using Apple Lossless files) with my Edition 8's - and I thought the sound was pretty good, but I had heard jvlgato's iPad with the camera kit connected via USB to his Headamp Pico, and that was much better.  My Camera Kit is also on back-order...but then I will try it with the iQube V2.

I thought I would never get an ipad and finally got one, and very satisfied with it.  I've been listening to Pandora with my SM3 and quality is very very good. L3000.gif

It was also my understanding that the 4 and 5g had the best DACs of the whole seriese and that apple went cheap afterwards.  I also got the impression that RWA does not mod the  classic because the classic is not mod-able.  You can open the 4 and 5g pretty easily - you'll destroy the classic trying to open it.  Well you wont destroy it but I'm not sure you can get it back together.  I've tried to mod the 4,5 and the classic.

The Wolfson is a good DAC but it doesn't mean every player using it is good too. I only changed my mind about the iPods after trying the iTouch. I'm going to buy a couple of iPads later but if it sounds like the Video, that'd be a downturn for me.

Wasn't the Classic part of the first iPod generation to have an integrated a/v chipset as opposed to a normal audio dac?
