JVC/Victor FX700 - The Successor (early Easter Bunny brought something very nice!)

No problem @ koonhua90, this was fun! Plus, you helped me discover use for my small tips, which I thought I would never have. With the FX700 nozzle being so thick, the small tips are too small, but seem to be the perfect fit. The sound is amazing! I'm listening through my uDAC to iTunes now on my iMac and wowweeeeeee!! Using supertips. Still hearing nuances I've never heard before. And you're right, soundstage is recast, but not necessarily smaller. LOVING IT!!

I added the FX700 to my list of IEMs: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15243

Even without isolation and tacky design they deserve the top place, for my ears. I don't want to give them back to James444... And this time I mean it, unlike with his e-Q7!

Wow, such conditions for posting in your thread, joe. So you don't think it's helpful for other potential SM3 buyers to know how they relate to other earphones, especially as the JVC is in your top tier list? You've made some helpful comparisons yourself, surely the more the better.

Sorry your don't understand that continuing to question how I hear the FX700, and my use of tips in the SM3 thread, not either the top-tier thread, or FX700 thread is not productive to the SM3 thread.  I was simply requesting that if the same comments about a different IEM were going to be repeated, they be repeated elsewhere.  Bottom line is I have heard both and put my thoughts in the thread already.  No need to keep rehashing it over and over.  I know my ears and have the experience to get the right fit with a plethora of tips to try, and none of the tips changed my opinion.  No other IEM I have heard can do what the SM3 does for my ears.  And soon enough dfkt and James444 will also share their opinions when they get the chance to hear both.

@joe-

I guess you don't understand the point I was making either. It is simply about the more comparisons the better for the benefit of possible new owners (who may not have searched thoroughly), and how your post made it seem like that was not welcomed. It's actually quite unfriendly to request a poster with a genuine question to 'take it elsewhere'. I guess you can run/police your appreciation thread how you like, but your attitude doesn't make for a comprehensive discussion, and I thought that the more information about how they compare with other phones, the better. Obviously not. Enjoy.

Also, I find it rather weird that you've moved this conversation from your SM3 thread to this one, since this has no bearing or origin here. But hey, if it makes sense to you, fine.

Chris and koonhua, I hope Joe is having a bad day, or we are just misunderstanding him. I'm too am taking aback to the suggestion that if the IEM mentioned in his thread is not SM3, that there's no place to ask questions about other IEM in comparison, or to drop some knowledge about a different IEM do you may think sound similar to the SM3 (or similar traits) based on what's been typed by SM3 owners. Has the SM3  owners become some exclusive little club? And I felt bad because I suggested that koonhua give Joe a suggestion about making the FX700 sound better to see if then might compare to the SM3, but koonhua seemingly got his head taken off. So my apologies to koonhua.

I am sure it's just a misunderstanding, and Joe didn't mean anything like that.

I hope so and I believe you're correct @ koonhua. Joe has been a very nice and thoughtful head-fier, so I've found in my dealings with him. But, I have to admit, his reply came off kind of harsh - to you, to cn11 and to me - so I had to respond, especially since I was the one who suggested that you tell Joe our findings. But I'm sure it's just some simple misunderstanding. It will resolve itself. Happy listening.

Perhaps I should contemplate about selling my IE8 and get this SM3....

. Well @ average_Joe, too bad you don't get a proper fit with the FX. The problem that you said before in earlier posts, such as recessed mid is no longer there, with a deeper insertion. I concur with you, cos' when I used the other tips, I had the same problems as what you had. Instrument separation and clarity is a notch better when I used the small tips (for Ericp10, he preferred the smallest supertips), but the key is, the tips need to be small. I know what you mean by 'unnatural' treble, for me it sounded a tad harsh. But the use of small tips solves that, making the treble smooth, while bringing the mid upfront. The micro details it pours into the ear, is simply incredible (for me at least).

@ Joe, I meant getting proper fit with the FX on the smallest tips, and none other. It will be less of a U shape, assuming if you can get a seal with FX, using the smallest tip. From my listening, I can say that it's definitely not neutral, but I like it a lot over my IE8.

Well, perhaps until I heard the SM3, then I can really make a verdict then...time to find a good place to sell IE8 and Etymotic. Does anyone know when is the x-Jays coming out?

oh and Joe, it was just purely a suggestion to use the smallest tip, as Eripc10 also concurred with me. No offence or anything. And I didn't try to make any comparison between SM3 and FX in my last post. Just that I heard significant improvement on the sound using the smallest tip, so I figured to share it with the people here.

Cheers

@ koonhua, sorry if my posts came across in the wrong way, although I think we already were in the process of working it out.  I have tried all the tips at my disposal with the FX700, and spent many hours doing so, but maybe I didn't make that clear.  I do appreciate your suggestion (and thank you also Eric).  I think I may be experiencing what you and Eric are experiencing with medium tips and will be happy to discuss the differences between the two IEMs if you desire in whatever thread you want, here the SM3 thread, or the top-tier thread (or a new thread :))  I am looking forward to moving on...

I didnt state clear about using the small tips in my first post either, so it was partially my fault. But let's just move on, as I still awaiting to read your comparison of SM3 vs MD and few other IEMs. I notice it was left empty in the SM3 thread

No problem Joe buddy. Moving on indeed. Too bad I can't afford these SM3 right now. Seems like they are giving you a lot of joy.

Good to know you got one @dfkt! As always, waiting for your impressions.

They didn't wowed at me too out of the box.

After eating much popcorn and lighting a few fires in dfkt's Hifiman thread, I wholeheartedly await his SM3 impressions.  Brace yourself Joe!!
