HELP!! Senn HD650 bought - Source Help!!! - Page 2

I think it totally makes sense to buy a 20 dollar amp for a 300+ dollar pair of headphones? I don't understand people's thinking some times. Your going to need to invest in some good gear to use the HD650's. I would sell them and buy some low resistance Audio Tecnias if your not prepared to spend at least 300-400 dollars more on a source and an amp, and thats pretty much a minimum.

I've been told the Fiio E7 can run the HD650's nicely (I've ordered one, STILL on backorder.) , I have the PA2V2 and I can say that The PA2V2 doesn't quite power them enough.

Build a CMOY.  Get the one from JLabs, very easy to make once you get the parts if you know how to solder.  Its cheap, $20 to build one.  It uses 9v source, it should give you enough power to amp your 650 portably.  Get a good opamp for it. OPA2227PA sounded pretty good for me. Pair it with a sony mp3 player or ipod(5th gen), and it should have enough power to drive it at a comfortable listening level.

I would recommend selling it as you would probably not enjoy listening to them from a portable setup everyone is suggesting, sell it here on head-fi and get a Grado SR 225is they would drive fine from your PSP.

If you want to listen to music on the go, in ear monitors(IEM, also called in ear canalphone) does a much better job. HD650 is for indoor listening. Check out the reviews of ClieOS and Ijoker on IEMs, if you're interested.

Or if you are set on headphones for portable use check the Sennheiser HD25-1 II. Or again check |joker|'s thread on portable headphones.

Point of this post is to confirm that the HD650's really aren't designed for portable use, at all.
