64GB Zune HD launching April 12th for $350, current models reduced $20

Breaking News

Let's just be nice and feign surprise, okay? Good. With that out of the way, Microsoft has announced a 64GB version of Zune HD, due out April 12th via the Zune online store (and later via other retailers) with a handful of color options and a strapping $349.99 price tag. Not to be outdone, the 16GB and 32GB will each receive a $20 cut on the MSRP, to $200 and $270, respectively -- whatever Amazon and Newegg slash beyond that is up to them. It seems "as soon as possible" is the motto for when the price drop is taking place, so if your favorite online / brick-and-mortar retailer isn't yet honoring the extra Andrew Jackson in your pocket, have patience. So now we're left with a v4.5 firmware release date as the remaining piece in this puzzle, but Microsoft promises to solve that riddle wrapped in an enigma "in the coming days." Right. Press release after the break. Show full PR text

Quite expensive for what it offers. maybe Newegg and Amazon will drop the price below $300 to help MSFT move a few units.

For that amount of money an iPod Touch is a much better option. even a netbook is MUCH BETTER option as a Portable source.

Why you would say this is beyond me, I didn't know netbooks can fit in pockets.

Great move by MSFT (un-exciting pricing, I agree), but I have a hard time seeing a lot of people buying this, with all the news of ZHD2 being supposedly amazing, if you're into the Xbox / internet aspect of a mobile device.

Me, I don't know whether to jump on this, or wait for the ZHD2, or (more likely) go with the J3 (expandable memory!).

EDIT: forgot about that new update in the near future! If codec support is really improved (ie, doesn't have to be a certain resolution, and is like the support that a S9 offers), then I definitely wouldn't mind the price.

If MS puts a custom EQ on this (we'll see what happens when the spring update hits) I'LL get 1 myself. Otherwise, it's nice, but I'll steer clear.

Yep it blows it has no custom EQ, the hardware is there the SQ is really nice and natural and warm with good seperation, but after listening to my wife's ZuneHD for awhile I notice it lacks in bass and vocals are recessed, To me my old zune30 sounded better because of this however with a custom EQ the ZuneHd would easily surpass it.

It' part of the reason I got an SFLO:2 I have had a zune as my main player for 3.5 years but finally got fed up with lack of real customization in sound.
