From an audio perspective I have invested a lot of money in power/power cables/analogue IC. I did not make the same dedicated investment in digital connections. I can't tell the difference between optic or coax, I tried different USB cables and couldn't rule out placebo for any differences I may or may not have heard.

I now stay away from USB altogether and use a fibre optic 3.5mm connection from my netbook - I thought I clearly heard the inferiority of the standard adaptive USB. My next step is perhaps the M2tech with BNC coax.

Shutting down the wireless, other applications, virus checker and closing the lid to turn off the screen - all seem to make noticeable differences. Running off battery also helps with audio only. When watching music DVD's on hard drive I found the sound was better when connected to the power supply.

My 2 cents.
