Planning to balance my headphone, I have couple questions

I have to recable my A700 so I figured why not just do a balanced recable . Anyways, I have a couple questions:

on the driver, which is the positive, negative, and ground?

Also, since I don't have a balanced amplifier (..yet)...I will need a balance to single adapter...so as for the wiring, is the diagram on the bottom correct? (DON'T MIND IT, it's wrong )

Thanks!!

Take a DDM continuity reading from the existing TRS plug, remember which wire is ground, left and right. Your diagram is very wrong.

You will only be connecting 2 wires to the drivers + and - The ground is not used for balanced headphones. For your adapter Left + to tip. Right + to Ring. Both -'s to sleeve.

So you are planning to hook the (+) and (-) of both sides together, making it a mono signal. Hmmm...

Oh...I get it now. But what about the ground connection on the XLR? Do I just leave that pin alone?

So, am I getting closer?

Thanks for the help!

Well done m11a1, good luck with your re-cabling!

yep, got it, might try using some flux and a little less heat on the soldering though, those joints are pretty dull looking, like youve burned all the flux out or there is something contaminating the fillet (glue residue perhaps?). they should be nice and shiny. when you recable I would use a braid to clean all that old solder off and use fresh

Thanks! It sounds much better (single-ended) but I feel that the new cable has little affect on the sonic change. Most of the change was because of the modding I had done on the damping prior to the new cable.

..However, I do believe that there will be big sonic difference when I use it with a balanced amplifier...which I don't have yet
