I hated the coiled cable that came with the Shure SRH840's and attempts at replicating the proprietary locking mechanism wasn't going well (they also wouldn't sell me any of the connectors). So, inspired by Scootermafia's balanced mini xlr mod, I decided to add a 3pin mini xlr where the stock jack was. At the same time I rewired everything to the drivers with Nucleotide OCC copper (PAIN!). I suck at remembering worklog pictures so all I have are some finished products.

I did this several months ago before I got my Dremel, so it was a HUGELY tedious process of using a too small drill bit and some sandpaper to shape the hole. You can see the scratching that was the result. The worst scratching is hidden by the plug so I don't really worry about it. Very pleased otherwise. I used some Switchcraft clones for the mini xlr jack and plug. Now it is a simple matter to build new cables and roll them. Not that I ever would but I can now use any aftermarket cable that was made for an AKG 702 as well (and if I happen to get an AKG 702 like I hope to, my cables can pull double duty).
