Since both my Sennheiser HD650's and Shure SRH840's both have detachable cables, my AKG K81DJ's were feeling left out. One Markertek order and an hour or so of Dremeling and soldering and no more hurt feelings! I forgot to take pictures during the process, but here are the finished shots. Now I can make all sorts of fun looking cables (match outfits, celebrate holidays, etc.) to plug in.

I used some Tecnec case mount mono jacks from Markertek and Neutrik mono plugs. Only had to Dremel some internal plastic away from the inside and ever so slightly enlarge the original cable holes. I used tiny pieces of Nucleotide OCC copper to connect the jacks to the drivers (nothing but the finest copper to connect my $0.90 nickel plated brass connectors!) I am thinking about forgoing the Neutrik bodies on future cables and use some polymer clay or epoxy putty to get them smaller. I'd have to trim away the strain relief clamp, but since the putty or clay secures the cables, it won't be a big deal.
