Steely Dan sounds remarkable for 70s matrerial - ahead of it's time.

I love too much stuff to list, but I'll say one thing - I get my hands on every remastered title that I can. Technology can bring out the best in even modest productions from the early 90s on back.

Pink Floyd - The Wall, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here - is what I think of when someone says "mind-blowing" production.

The coolest, most original stuff seems to come from producers - engineers - musicians that know all the rules, and break plenty of them.

I'd say Seal (1994) is one of the most exquisite sounding productions I've ever heard.

David Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy", Low, "Heroes", and Lodger. The 1984 German RCA CD pressings sound unbelievable.

I listen mostly to metal so you can guess that most of my albums don't have the "best" quality sound ...although some of them are amazing sounding, prog metal albums especially (symphony-x,dream theater etc.)
but I will give two non-metal albums i own that i think sound realy amazing, no matter if i use denon or grado or sennheiser.

1. dire straits-"brothers in arms" full album. simply sound astonishing like most dire straits recordings, but I think that it is especially good.

2.steely dan- like already mentioned in this thread, another great band that sounds really amazing throughout their albums, but the "aja" album sound so smoooooth! the whole sound is silky smooth but still not neglecting highs and timbres, they are so crispy and clear. very recommended for the RS1!

Agree with Plonter on the Dire Straits albums, they all seem to be produced very well indeed.

Another album worth seeking out is Fast Floor - The Eternal Dream, this was produced in conjunction with Mana Acoustics who make high end equipment supports and features a studio decked out with their racks and speaker supports, the album is breathtakingly well produced with a complete lack of "digital" sound, I have yet to hear bass like it.

It's not music that "blows me away" necessarily, but I enjoy most Toto albums...good SQ on many of their albums; terrific group of musicians.

YES

Also, Iggy Pop's Berlin albums that were made with (hell, more like by) Bowie, Lust for Life and The Idiot, are great too.
