Help a troubled commuter

Hi guys so i recently just got myself a ipod classic the 160g one, and ive been using a pair of Koss KSC75 for a while now..but trouble is they are so damn open (very good IMHO) that they are difficult to use on a train...there i am listening to some good music and a baby next to me starts crying...or some fat dude to fiddle with his newspaper etc etc..u get the picture.
I was thinking bout gettin the UE 10 universal fits. I live in Aus atm, so my question is does anybody know the cheapest places where i can get these from? the cheapest ive seen so far are these

New Ultimate Ears TripleFi Triple Fi 10 Earphones - eBay, Headphones Earbuds, iPod MP3 Accessories, Electronics. (end time 21-Apr-10 08:01:50 AEST)

im guessing theyre pretty legit since i dont know of seeing any fakes. also..if someone knows a better pair (hard to find) than these for around the same cost i am open to suggestion. (the budget is around the same as these UE's)

thanks

I'd suggest not to jump so high, so fast. The HiFiMan RE0 seems to be a well-liked IEM around here. Or you could probably find some Shures in your local electronics store.

if im not wrong theres no fake ultimate ears product around. However, on ebay i think you can find another 1 for a much better price, like 150-180ish no?

Oh yes, there are. Fake 5Pro and 10Pro exists in China. They have one dynamic transducer instead of armatures.

Another good option would be the HiFiMAN RE-252 from Head Direct.

Why is everyone harping on this topic?
Is there a specific reason you want the Triple.Fi's? I'm asking to see if you've done research and know you want these or have you just stumbled on this sale?

I have some recabled and I love them to death; just got some UM3Xs to compliment them as well.

well heres some more info if that helps. I have done research around the forums and they seem to be very well appreciated as neutral and all round good performers. I have never tried them tho, and to buy them off headphones.com.au they're around 500 a pop. so i figure theyre a good bargain if theyre half price although i did hear they were 99 once on amazon. I personally have little experience in high end audio but im not going to spend money again and again to upgrade which is why i sorta like to buy stuff with good build quality once and then forget about it for a few years.

My music taste is varied i listen to practically anything, more than a 100 different genres so i need something which is good across everything from instrumental to rap, i want something that will bring out the clarity of my music which is largely alac to 256kbps mp3 being the lowest.

something offering isolation is very important, and something thats ready to go since i dont own a dac or an amp.

P.S ive seen that they're well appreciated for many years now and theyre also very durable.

What's wrong with him jumping to the TF10? Looks like he's saving a lot of time and money down the road, if you know what I mean.

Just be careful of the annoying fit...

yeah exactly the problem with living in australia is enjoying everything overpriced! making it so hard to get stuff for a reasonable price, and being left unable to upgrade or sequentially get better stuff. P.S unless theres something better out there which would fit my criteria id love to hear it, also would someone be able to confirm if the ebay site ive put up seems real? or am i looking at a pair of fakes?

Oh no I don't have anything against him getting the phones; I'm all for it to be honest. I was just wanting to make sure he knew what kind of sound signature that the Triple's had (slightly emphasized treble, slight recess of mids, moderate soundstage), so he wouldn't be surprised and possibly turned off by this when he got them.

But yea at under 200 they are amazing; shoot I'd pay up to 300; well I'd be able to make a direct comparison with my UM3Xs that come in later this week, for comparing with a suitable IEM, but I got mine for... 164 shipped about 2 months ago and was blown away by the sound quality. They inspired me to go and buy some Classical CDs as I stopped listening to that genre a long time ago :/

But they are pretty good all around phones. I use them for basically all genres except... metal, country, and classic rock (I just don't like these genres, I love hardcore/alternative/acoustic) and they do not disappoint.

would you say the treble is to a point where it might hurt?..i dont like the really sharp painful sound..but a lil more warmth and kind of a rich but not overpowering bass. the KSC75 have a nice warm bass which doesnt sound like a fart.

not at all. id say the triplefi 10's have a good universal sound sig. it sounds good in almost all genres, but not great at every single one of course. it excels in classical with the clarity and translucent sound, but its not too great at making you feel the bass beats in hiphop or r&b. read up a few more reviews that list comparison and opinion by songs and you'll see that theyre not particularly good at the mid or lower end, which is why a couple people added a mid driver in their custom tf10.

if you're looking for warm mid and rich bass, you have the wrong phones. buy the sennheiser ie8 or the westone 3 (not um3x). the gold monster turbine pros might be a good choice although i havent done much research into that yet. if you want a little cheaper, the regular monster turbines are fairly good but they just dont have the clarity of the ie8 in the higher registers. the cables of the monsters are a huge complaint for me also, it tangles, easy to fray, and the turbines weigh too much on the ears. but your mileage may vary on all these phones.

ive owned the monster turbine regular, the ie8, and the triplefi 10s. the others are opinions i read from reviews.

For isolation, try the Etymotic 4s (or P) with some Comply tips.
Yea the Triples have an open, airy sound with great treble. Moving from those with a Lune cable (Extra treble) to the UM3Xs was a drastic change for me but I'm willing to adapt

Ditto the man. I still have to find an equivalent isolation from any other combo than Etys with comply foamies. In traffic and commuting this is simply the best.
