SSD in a Classic - Is It Possible?

As the title says, is it possible to mod a Classic to use an SSD instead of the HDD installed. The only real issue I personally have w/the classic is the slow seek times, and the SLOW coverflow feature. Will an SSD solve these problems?

Anyone try this yet?

SSD, yes, cf card, no. The capacity of cf cards is too low ATM, so a new hc SSD is the way to go. Better battery life, faster seek times, immediate coverflow, etc. SSD is the move.

well you didn't answer my question regarding the specs of the original hard drive, so i can't really advise you on a replacement SSD

you can definitely get one for a 5G video though, as mine had one - until i swapped it into my macbook and fitted a CF in the ipod

Sorry, didn't mean to look like I was ignoring you. I didn't give specs as I don't have a classic in hands as of yet. I will (hopefully) shortly, if I get a chance to pick up a used 1 someplace.

I'll keep you posted, and I hope it's as simple as opening the classic, swapping it out, reinstalling the FW, and enjoying.

you can put a 64GB CF card, price would be prohibative, but it would own,
the problem is that the higher the density in memory cards, the lower the speed, CF are great for this becuase of the integrated ATAPI controller,

another idea is that theres several SD to ATAPI convertors which allow the usage of several SD cards in a single array in stripping mode (meaning that a single partition is established across all the cards and the act as a single drive), using 4-6 high speed 8 or 16GB SDHC cards, interesting results can be obtained, but im not sure its price effective,
