iPods & 24bit files

Hello all,

I just scored a 24-bit vinyl rip of one of my fav albums. Sounds awesome!
I successfully converted the flac's to Apple Lossless and brought them into itunes

However, when I try to bring them over to my ipod, it says the bit-rate isnt supported...bummer

Any ideas on how to bring this stuff over to my ipod?

Well, what sampling rate is it encoded to?
The iPods support 24-bit fine, but not a sampling rate above 48kHz. Meaning 24-bit/48kHz is supported, while 24-bit/96kHz is not..

d'oh didnt even think about that

sample rate is 96kHz

The only way to put hi-res files on ipod is to use ipod as a hard disk (check apple or google). Ipod will not play them anyway ...

slightly off-topic, as it doesn't run on a classic, but does rockbox support 96/24?

Yes RockBox supports and plays up to 24/192 but crudely downsamples them to 16/48(44) before passing them on to the dac, be it internal or external.

There you have it.
Only option is to resample down to 48 or 44kHz.
