Newer phones as transports? We're getting HDMI :)

Seeing that some of the newer phones are coming with features like HDMI out I'm thinking there will be some really good opportunities for treating phones as transports when using a portable DAC/AMP.

Sprint is coming out with the HTC EVO pretty soon.

This is a beast of a phone with HDMI out running Android.

What I'm hoping may come out of this new movement for HDMI on the phone is that we can leverage the digital transport capabilities and get some portable DAC/AMP's that have a micro HDMI connector to feed.

I'm really thinking this could be the Holy Grail for portable gear. A monster phone with HDMI, fast connection and microSD plus a portable DAC/AMP and IEM's.

The cottage industry of equipment manufacturers might see a new way of products using HDMI for inputs

The battery life would be close to non-existent. But it's a start.

And i was excited about the usb sound out of the ipad :P hehehe Im defy gonna avoid apple and go with the droids :) progress rocks............ finally can ditch the iriver 120s...

That sounds like a smart idea. I am about to buy an Android. Now I need one with HDMI out.

Some one must be technical enough to be able to create a HDMI digital sound out to coax cable and mass produce it.

Would be cool to connect an Android to iBasso D10.

 

There are some chinese produced PMPs with HDMI out too I think. The problem might be to be able to direct the digital flac/mp3 signal to the HDMI port.

Perhaps special software is needed.
