Newbie iPod iTouch questions

I finally got an iPod for the very first time in my life!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!!



It's an 8 GB iTouch, 3rd Gen.

I tried to search the info on this site but it is so scattered and confusing

I want to rip only a few CDs into my iTouch and I will try to do it with the iTunes software I guess. What is the name of the iPod lossless file that I should use?

Sorry about the dumb newbie questions. Any other advise is apprecated. Thank you!

First: It's iPod Touch, not iTouch.
Second: The lossless audio format will be ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec).
Third: Enjoy, you're gonna love it!!!

In iTunes go to Preferences > Import Settings > Import Using

and switch it to Apple Lossless Encoder. Then pop your CDs in and click Import CD.

I know it's codec, but I guess you caught me when half/asleep,.............

Wrong! It's iPod touch, not iPod Touch.
Apple refer to touch with a lowercase t.

Wow
But yea man great on your purchase, I hope you like it. I loved my 1G Touch because of all of the things I could do on it; kind of miss it but the SQ wasn't all that great :/

Ok, So I downloaded the iTunes software and ripped a CD into the iTunes library and then I plugged my iPod into the laptop and the files immediatly imported into the iPod. Hurray!!

BUT

When I unplugged my iPod and deleted the CD tracks from my library in my laptop and replugged my iPod, the files were gone too in the iPod. I suppose when the iPod and PC are in sync, whatever you do to the library will reflect on to the iPod. Is this normal?

P.S.

Is the Apple lossless a compressed file similar to FLAC style?

Bummer that you actually got the old version of the iPod Touch. For $100 more, you could have gotten four times the storage space and the better GPU and DAC chip.

You're right. I thought about that. Fortunately I only paid $148 shipped, lightly used. I will definitly get the 32 GB version or similar next year. It's something for me to look forward too. But my main DAP is the 40 GB iRiver hp140 so in a way I'm not really deprived.
