Starts at 2030 local time, wherever you live.
I'll shut my lights. Modem, DVR and a variety of devices will keep working. I'll let my computer run on battery power (yes, I'll recharge it later).

This won't be taking place on Earth Day?

I did!
...for two hours, not just one.

Didn't do it

I was too busy studying and forgot.

I wonder if my system will sound better with less people pulling from the power company, and less interference?

We do it in about 35 minutes.

Oh yeah I'm sure you'll get a huge improvement!

I'll turn off the lights as I leave a room just as I always do. This kind of thing is simply an effort to help us feel good about doing something virtually pointless. If you want to make a difference volunteer at a hospital or don't drive your car for a month.

Yeah, shutting lights for one hour isnt going to do much. We would have to shut it for a month each year to make a difference maybe.

Whatever....it gives the hippies something to feel good about

No offense to the hippy-duck krmathis...lol

I'm going to see UFC 111 in a movie theater, so the lights will be off, that will have to count for me I guess

I heard if everyone in the states replaces just 1 light bulb in their home with an energy efficient one they can shut down 1 power plant!

Um for earth hour I'll... well I'm always energy conscious, maybe I'll eat some soil.

Which kind? Coal-fire or nuclear?

I'm not entirely sure where I read that but I did find this:

"What that means is that if every one of 110 million American households bought just one ice-cream-cone bulb, took it home, and screwed it in the place of an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people. One bulb swapped out, enough electricity saved to power all the homes in Delaware and Rhode Island. In terms of oil not burned, or greenhouse gases not exhausted into the atmosphere, one bulb is equivalent to taking 1.3 million cars off the roads."

That's the law of large numbers--a small action, multiplied by 110 million.

Nobody in my hood did it. I sat outside with my Zune for awhile waiting to see if any lights went out.
Alot of my lights here were shut , but my pc was on, and the smaller light in the kitchen...so we complied 70%...lol.
